View Full Version : GenF bonnet badge - is this right?
What's wrong with this pic? Is it just me or is the HSV badge on my new R8 not in the centre? Is this normal on other GenF's? Is it because of the centreline crease on the bonnet? Just doesn't look right.

Some pictures I found online. Might be worth a discussion with the dealer.

Friday afternoon special that one. Terrible that it happened in the first place, and equally terrible that it got through pre-delivery to the customer without being fixed.

I can't see that being fitted like that in the factory, they use templates & QC would have spotted it.
I think that badge has been refitted or replaced somewhere for whatever reason after it left the factory.
I could tell some real horror stories about some of the repairs I have seen done to new cars before they have been sold.

Yeah very easy fix, it is just stuck on with a double sided backing tape.
I would want a brand new badge rather than them removing that one & replacing the double sided tape which sticks it on

Thanks, wasn't sure how it was stuck on and if would stuff up the paint.
And yeah, I reckon a new one is the least they can offer me. I've only had it two weeks and have to say it wasn't something I checked until I took a few photos and had it as my wallpaper on the iPad. And then saw it. WTF...

I'd be checking for accident damage to you can't go wrong with that at the factory surely

My understanding is that it can't be sold as new if it has undergone any repair once leaving the factory. It would have to be sold under a different pretence such as demo. That being the case, the badge alignment issue is more than likely just an oversight, and car is new.

Ask them for a detail or at least a polish so paintwork is consistent where the exposed badge area will be after removal.

They are very often repaired then sold as new buddy.
A guy I know owns a panel shop who repairs plenty of new cars...
even Ferarris get damaged in transit or before they are sold.
Another guy I know is a mobile touch up operator who just about only works repairing small scrapes on new cars.
The worst I saw was a $85,000 car that was taken for a joy ride by a young new car manager on a trade plate
and smashed into a truck with over $30,000 damage including air bags being deployed, new radiator support,
bonnet, front bar, 2 new guards, new bumper, a pull to straighten, motor removed to repair inner guards & more......
Then sold as new.

Bloody hell!
Thanks everyone.
Yeah, not happy, but what can you do?
Spoke to dealer today and they are very sorry. Going to replace the badge etc. and hopefully all will be good. They were good.
Still a great car but it's the little things that sometimes spoil it.....

The way we've always treated it is if it's a bolt-on panel replacement or repaint, resell as new (ensuring that you can't tell it's been painted, we have a very good spraypainter we use), if permanent panel/weld in replacement required then it can't be. Had a few vehicles with roof/turret damage during transport and they got sent back to Holden.
