Over in WA, we are currently setting up a wingless sprint car division utilising a v8 engine. The two engine options we have are the 602 SBC engine and the LS1 engine. We are trying to keep the price as low as possible for people to be able to join.
We plan to rev limited the cars to 6000rpm and upgrade the valve springs. What other areas could you see being problems with using the LS1 engine?

Don't really see any problems in using an Ls1 & there pretty keen second hand. As you mentioned valve springs & oil pump pressure check is advisable. Overfill of oil recommended or upgrade baffled sump.
It all comes down to how tired the LS is & how far you go to refresh them.

Oil system is a bit how you going for lots of slidey go rounds, drifters kill them if they don't sort the oil out.
I agree with Mick, better sump and I would add a accumulator.
A set of valve springs wouldn't hurt it like you said.
What are you doing with ignition and fuel? Keeping them EFI? Are you going to leave them with the stock tune/ECU or provide a tune for parity?

oil pan baffling would be the biggest concern, but im sure you guys have that shit worked out already for the other motors.
considering the burnout boys are pretty fond of the ls1 motors and they can sing off the rev limiter for ages without blowing, it should be a good match.
I've tuned a few ls1 burnout cars and they happily smash limiter for minutes on end and none of the ones I've done have blown up.
