Well it sorta is . . . .

It has a 250w mode which is road legal however,

to be perfectly legal it need a sensor on the pedals (shit easy to fit)

which supplies power when you turn the pedals? (pedal assist)

I have a twist throttle, you can have both.

I've asked the national park boys whom look after La Perouse (where I live)

and they said no motor, no noise, who gives a fuk.

I had one pinched and the coppers were involved and they didn't care either,

they just said, be good and we don't give a shit what you do.

10 Grand kinda stops the dickheads as well.

I made one from a full suspension Giant 2.5 Kw as well, goes good.

Cheers

What sort of protective clothing do you wear? I am assuming if you are hitting 80kph Helmet and even leathers maybe?

Saw these on YouTube a while ago. They look awesome! Dunno if I'd pedal a lot though.

I can guarantee that in its current trim it is illegal. Electric powered vehicles used to have a maximum speed of 10km/h which catered for mobility scooters/golf carts etc. However advances in technology meant mobility scooters could easily exceed 10km/h so it was raised to 25km/h.

These things can do in excess of 80km/h!

The underlying issue, is that govts of all types do not want you to travel around for free. Whether by paying train fares or fuel excises, registrations etc, any thing that gets you around for free at a reasonable speed is basically illegal. If I was commuting less than 10 minutes to work I would buy one of these in a heartbeat.

Now having said that, I don't begrudge anyone buying one as they look like a lot of fun, and most things fun are borderline illegal anyway.

Black 346: Yeah wear steel toe cap boots, got a carbon fibre full face helmet from UK

made for down hill racing, mainly down hill gear for speed.

It can go allot faster than you can so you have to slow up allot.

It doesn't care who it hurts, full power first turn!

You can't just let people have a burn on it, all they'll burn is skin!

HSVREDSLED: With pedal assist it's legal which is plug and play, coppers

have checked it out and as long as it doesn't have petrol motor.

It's the old story, be good and all is well. Off roads more fun than on.

They all love green power

I see Alex S from Russia on youtube he's modified his quite a bit,

his does 120 Kph for 160 Klm, no way, 80 Klm is fast enough.

It's quite hard to click the 80 Kph as you need quite a bit or room,

and 80 Kph is fukin fast on a pushy!!! (I had the first one up to 105 Kph down hill and wow scary shit)

I can travel about 40 Klm around La Perouse by bike tracks without the road.

Off road trees are an issue, haven't hit one yet :kapow:

While we're on the subject of electric!!!!! have you seen the latest fastest production bike in the world

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3DiAecsh_0 (you've just got to watch this)

On it's first run it took out the production bike land speed record? (215 mph)

Then off to Pike Peak with Michael Dunlop on and beat the whole field by 20 seconds on the hill climb,

hitting 160 mph up the straights, that's beating all the purpose bikes on Pikes Peak, the yank - Isle of Man.

Electric is going to shit all over everything in only a few years now.

There is no doubt as batteries capacity and charge times improve more and more electric cars will become the norm rather than the oddball option. 100% torque from 0rpm = fun.

I certainly don't want to come across as the fun Police here. They look like great fun and I would love to have one. But I am concerned that someone may read this and go out and buy one and then find out it is illegal.

The restriction on petrol engines was due to the stopping distance of such vehicles. At the time of testing, a 'pedalec' could only assist the rider in a small way and there was no significant top speed, hence they faired well in the stopping test. But if these things are now going 80km/h +, then its in a new ball game. My understanding is that for a electric powered pushbike to be legal, (and not need registering) the following needs to apply. 1. The motor can only be activated after the rider begins pedalling. 2. The motor must cut out when the bike achieves 25km/h. 3. The bike must not be capable of sustaining an average of 43km/h over a considerable distance which is considered the average speed of a accomplished rider.

Yes I do understand that you should behave in an appropriate manner and all will be good. But over zealous HWP officers will love chasing down these things. If I was to purchase one, I would seek a written guarantee from the seller that they are legal for operation on NSW roads and a full refund will apply if determined otherwise.

July Motor has a comparison between the Dodge Hellcat and the Tesla S P85D.

I watched the video on it. Hellcat was catching the Tesla at the top of the track. The Tesla just got off the line so fast.
