There is an interesting article in Car and Driver about tyres. Amongst other things, the latest trend from car manufacturers seems to be to go for narrower, larger diameter tyres to improve fuel economy, acceleration and braking. Cornering is compromised but compensated for with stickier compounds. Even the new Corvette has gone this way. Following is the link.
