Hi guys, I did a search but couldn't find the answer. does anyone know if a set of VY clubsport front brakes (slotted) would be compatible with a VX commodore SS? Im thinking of buying these off gum tree. i have 19 inch rims if that makes a difference

Yes, they'll fit straight up and will be no issues with your wheels. The twin spots will only be 330mm discs

much appreciated white lie. i know it can be tedious dealing with newies on forums so thanks. sorry one more question, will i need to replace anything else for the conversion?

Take some calipers with you and measure the discs before you buy. If they're anywhere near 30mm I would try and bargain them down more. Minimum thickness is 29mm so you wouldn't get much life out of them before needing new rotors. 32mm is the new thickness.

Also check how much meat is on the pads. Pretty sure the standard hoses will still be long enough. Just get some new fluid to flush thru the system when you put them on. Would possibly be worth getting the calipers serviced before putting them on but that's up to you.

Do they come with rears or is it just the fronts?

just the fronts. my vx is fairly ghetto and the front rotors need replacing so i thought why not upgrade

Bought them, bargained him down but am unsure if they are usable. the discs themselves are in good nick except for this damage. given that it is so deep is it worth machining them? I am not looking for perfection, do you reckon the disc is passable or will it destroy the pads?

Also, one of the rubber boots is missing from the caliper slide. is this something i should address immediately? I'm just guessing that might be a hard part to find.

Hi disc should be fine and use rubber off your old brakes

The marks in the disk look quite deep. Machine out the marks and the disk will likely be below spec. As for your rubber I'd say that the rubber has simply popped out of the groove. The raised area in at the LHish side of the rubber should have a square section of rubber to fit in the groove. I'm betting if you pull it down you will be able to squeeze it back on. Then make sure there are no tears. They tend to pop of when the slide pins are overextended.

i have noticed with this brake setup that the HSV calipers are 2 pot and only connect with one side of the disc. this happens to be the side that is damaged. Given that the other side is virginal, is it actually that bad to swap these directional slotted rotors left to right?? Is the trade off worth it, or am i likely to get very hot brakes.

With that rotor damage, wouldn't recommend fitting them up.

I'm thinking the marks in the disc aren't as deep as the slots in the rotors. Obviously not ideal, but I would think still useable, you are aware of the damage, if check out the pad condition from time to time and it doesn't cause issues with the pads I'd probably use them. The problem with buying used discs however is they may well have a shudder to them that you don't know until you fit them. My VX Clubby is still on original discs (slotted on my R8) and I am starting to notice some shudder (car has done just on 100,000Km), I had them machined not long back but no difference really. Some years ago I had a VS Exec from new and when it was around 110,000Km I started to get brake shudder, I had the discs machined - little or no difference, wound up putting new discs on which were cheap for a VS Exec anyway and all good. With my limited experience of machining discs for brake shudder I'd say don't waste your money just put it toward new discs.

Yes being cast they won't last forever & if damaged no amount of machining if "legal" will fix them.

I would personally not be happy fitting that rotor.

The Op obviously has a reasonable VXSS why would you fit a damaged rotor to a nice vehicle? How would you feel if there was an accident/problem & your insurance co. refused a claim or worse?
In my book there way too important to cheat on.

You can get a brand new set of 4000 Series DBA's for about $400. I wouldn't even bother reusing them with score marks like that.
