Can't give you much info on the Heartbeat but the earlier 6L80s in particular, which I assume yours is, have been known to die even behind stock motors. Certainly don't handle big hp without at least a tune which is spot on! Re putting LSX in a car which didn't come from the factory with it the motors themselves are available here for around $10 - $12k but end up doubling that by the time they've finished.
See for example http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?165140 where the car underwent an LSX transplant.

If you have a decent mechanic probably just rebuild the LS3 with forged internals and 9.5 to 1 compression and stick the heartbeat on it. Probably easier

Or you could ship one of these to the UK

Honestly I'd just go an LSA crate and use the leftover dollars to do something with the box. It will be "ok" with extra power if you're not hard on it and have a big trans cooler though.

My tuner has reckon mended that I go lsa and sell my heartbeat. Get it cammed and should run around 700fwhp with headers and remap. He said the lsx would have heat issues trying to keep the iron block cool. Should have some money left over to sort the gear box. Any thoughts?

Makes sense. The LSA is INCREDIBLY good value as a package.

God I'm a bloody idiot! Was somehow thinking LSA, not LSX. Therefore some of my comments are irrelevant...............:doh::doh:
