Hi All,

My sister and her partner are looking to buy a second hand (From a dealer for warranty) VF SSV Wagon and I was hoping people could tell me what to look out for when inspecting the vehicles. Are there any known issues that we should look for?

What price range should they be commanding?

What would a white with black interior SSV Wagon with 8000km on the clock cost?

There's not really much to look for, any VF's on the road should still be under factory warranty assuming < 100,000km. I guess check under the wheel wells just in case it's had aftermarket wheels fitted that have scrubbed the jeebus out of it and the usual body checks for a bingle. There are some known service fixes but mostly small things (software updates to mylink/HVAC, seat leather covers coming away under the seat etc). These can all be sorted after purchase under warranty.

Check the AC - they have a habit of short-gassing at factory and a regas won't be warranty (Holden don't cover recharging A/C after 3m/3000km unless there's a problem causing a leak). The AC will be cold but not frosty cold.

Cost, I wouldn't expect to bargain too much. The wagons cost the most out of the lot, there aren't many sold and white retains value fairly well. Wagons always sell well.

Thanks for the advice.

Forgive the noob question, but does new car warranty transfer to second owner (private sale) ?

New car warranty and subsidised capped servicing both transfer with the vehicle. Check the inside of the service book to see who it belonged to - if it belonged to a rental or government customer then it has no subsidised CPS (unlikely with an SS wagon).

I day say stock of VF1's will increase slightly over the coming months, but not with near new kms on them. I doubt one with 8000kms has taken much of a hit cost wise, especially dealer used, roughly without looking at carsales etc I'd guess around the $45k, you'll probably find more Redlines white though for not much more.

Apart from staggered wheels and better front brakes, is there much else different in the red line?

Rain sensing wipers, colour HUD, forward collision and lane departure warnings, sunroof, Bose audio, chrome trim pieces/accents etc. Does the SS have the park assist like the Redline?

All VF's have park assist. Also gets FE3 suspension.

Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade

................

having driven quite a few (and now own a VF ... actually GEN-F) wagon Including recently this crazy mofo of a wagon I was loaned recently while mine got a service...

only a few things come to mind...
windscreen washer reservoir slowly empties as you drive... the factory keep putting a one way valve to the outlets in wrong way
front wheel and disc rotor balance can be a problem (suckers are hard to balance)
AFM is an ABSOLUTE biatch in a wagon (booms rumbles and vibes are the order of the day) .. a test drive is a must
and
check for a proper spare wheel ( an 'out of date' can of goop is not a thing you want) The space is there for one...

finally ...as already mentioned make sure the software is the latest... MYLINK actually behaves on mine after the latest upload.

That's just the nature of AFM though. You have pipes big enough for a V8 suddenly running a 4cyl - put a fartcan on a Lancer and it's much the same thing. The V8/4 still sounds better but there's a tradeoff for having all that AFM shit.

Greatest problem in the wags is the turret I reckon a helluva lot of metal that flexes way too much causing excessive boom on any suspension movement.
