Hi there
I have a VE Series 2 Calais-V with a V8 engine that is less than 3 years old.
There is 15,000km on the clock and the condition of the vehicle is what I would call excellent.
I'm going to trade in on a VF Series 2 Calais-V with the new LS3 engine.
What sort of trade in should you guys think I should be aiming for ?
I appreciate that there are a lot of factors that influence a trade-in so was more looking for a generalisation.
Appreciate your comments and advice
Cheers

20k pending which dealer you go to, most will offer less than a red book price on trade. One thing in your favour the dealer will want your new car sale.
If your in Sydney speak to Radenco at Suttons Arncliffe, good guy to deal with.

Best to talk changeover price as well do not just focus on the trade in

Gotcha. That was going to be my intention. Hopefully I can get a changeover in the vicinity of $35,000 ?
Consider selling it privately.
I had a Discovery 3 and the best I could get as a trade was $30k so I decided to sell it privately and ended up getting $48,500 (and sold it in 3 days).
Yes it's a hassle to sell privately, but if you can clear a few grand more it's a pretty good hourly rate for your efforts.

Your first problem could be trying to deal on price or change over on a new release model.
Demand may be high enough where discounting won’t be available until the initial rush of new release orders is over.
Secondly your Series 2 VE is now 3 models off the pace and I’ve heard where the dealers aren’t all that interested in adding them to their used car lots.
Certainly ask the dealer for a price but be prepared for a very big rude shock.

Thanks guys for all your advice.
I'll consider selling privately if I can't do a good deal with the car dealer. I'm prepared for "seller shock" and if they can't come to the party then I'll just bide my time.
I understand that my timing might be off with the VF Series 2 being a new model and yes, it might be better to wait until the initial rush of buyers has calmed down.
It's not like I'm in an urgent rush to buy.
Thanks again

This typically is my experience. If you personally have any value in how you have cared for your car (which sounds like you do) then any trade price will be a kick in the gonads. Seems the VFII is selling well so don't expect them to be getting desperate.
What a mate did was we got the trade price, then put on private sale and basically said in the ad this is what we were offered trade, offer more and its yours. Took less than a week and got 3k more, both party's won.
If a little bit more is not here nor there with you then so be it, but that 3k could pay for some mods or something to shut the mrs up. IF you're in no rush, then chuck it up now for sale with a highish price tag, go fishing.

This is true, but if you catch a 'green' salesperson you can get them to give a good price on the new vehicle, then hit them for a trade value.
Bagman, what are the full specs of your car? might be worth posting an ad on here and you may find another enthusiast/potential buyer who can appreciate the cars condition.
When selling our 2010 SSV SE Wagon, my biggest downfall was living in the country. it was in great condition but too far for most buyers. hopefully being in Sydney will work in your favour.
Good luck.

That is not a bad idea. Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by "full specs" ?

That could be taken as a point of interest & frowned upon here. Why not just test the water in the Classified section?

Oops. Apologies. Was unaware of that fact.
No problem. Will do as you suggest.

Was only a suggestion, mate your free to do as you will. Who knows you may find an honest quick buyer in the classifieds, as many of us do.
Good luck with it.

Yes, if you want to list anything for sale on the forum it must be in a proper "classifieds" advert & it must have at least a starting price.
No "expression of interest" threads are allowed.
Best of luck with it!
I think this thread has run it's course.:closed:
