Will L98 coil packs work on a LS1?

Is there any wiring mods for them to work or is it just plug n play?

Dwell is going to be different though..

Sorry, Dwell?

Charge time for the coils in milliseconds, too low and you don't get a big enough zap, too high and you fry the coils, there's a table RPM x Volts and LS1 coils are very different to L98 coils..

Isnt that changed via the tune?

Yes it's changed in the tune.

Yes it's changed in the tune.

So i wouldn't really have to change anything because it will be running off the LS1 PCM, right?

No you will need to change the dwell in the tune.

I think you also need the looms off the coils.. I dont think you can use the LS1 coil loom on L98 coils. I can't remember now... so many beers ago.

ok ok i get it, i think haha. I need to change the tables to suit the L98 coils yeh?

Can i just copy it over for a saved tune of a VE commodore and paste it onto mine?

No the tables are a little bit different so you'll have to do it manually.

I haven't changed anything just plugged in.
No issues at all.

No issues other than either getting lower spark energy or hotter coils than desired....

The Dwell table is huge/complex for a reason, L98 coils are some of the hottest OEM coils GM use so why not optimise them to deliver their best..

It's NOT Rocket Science.

Like I said I haven't had any issues and its been like that for years.
But if its leaving hp on the table its definitely worth doing 100%.
Question is can you transfer the tables from a VE tune to ls1 cos5?
I also have efi live so changing it wont be an issue.
I wasn't aware myself the dwell times were that different.

It's not a direct copy/paste as the tables are slightly different, you have to enter a lot of it manually in the cells that are close to lining up then interpolate the rest, a little time consuming but I think worth the effort.

That's it checking out both tunes they are not even close ,the later tune also has a multiplier
so how do you know the values are correct?
Ive never heard of anyone doing this before.
Is there a definite improvement? increase in hp?

If it's not blowing out spark there may be no real improvement in HP but it might make a difference in drivability..

Would be small gains by way of efficiency. Greater concern would be the longevity of the coil pack.

Too much dwell = bad things...

That hasn't happened and I drive it daily and drag race so cant be that bad.
Ill change the table and see how it goes.

It all depends how many K's have you put on the L98 using the early pcm os?
