View Full Version : Torx size to remove IAC - LS1?

Howdy folks, quick question (well not really quick, but..)

I want to give my IAC a clean with some carby cleaner (got the dreaded bad idle/surge and 'almost stall' on braking ........ PCV all looks good and cats have just been replaced, so it's gotta be the IAC ........... *fingers crossed*)

Tried to remove it over the weekend with the Torx key set that I have but I don't seem to have the size that fits.

Tried a T15 - too big, then a T10 - too small ............... there seems to be no 12 or 13 - am I missing something (probably, given I'm still a nuffy .....)

Also, while I'm on the subject ........... out of curiosity, called Holden spare parts today to get a price on a new TPS and IAC - nearly fell over ........... they wanted over $600 for the both (and THEN $190 to fit them .............. ppppppppppppppppfffffffffffffffffffttttttttttt ............. *shakes head*) - even the bloke on the service desk couldn't believe it (I recently replaced the TPS on the Addy and it was $40 off Evil Bay, and you can find OEM type IAC for $75-$130 ......... again, am I missing something.)

As always,

Thanks

I have a throttle body in bits so not sure it is the right bolt or not but most of them need a T20 torx.
There are 2 that need a T15

Cheers mate, ended up having to get the calibrated knockometer onto it to get it sorted; Torx 10 did the job, just needed some persuading.

IAC was carboned to the sh1t house. Gave it and the throttle body a good clean.

Will drive it for a spell and if still giving me grief I will go through the re learn procedure and take it from there.

Thanks

Did you do an idle relearn when it was all done?

Not yet; I don't need to is disconnect the battery for this do I? Idle is heaps better since cleaning.

Disconnect the battery or pull the pcm fuse. Easier to pull the fuse IMO

Sweet, will give it a go. There are a couple of different ways of doing it yeah. Is the following the best way?
The Information is from Holdens Workshop Manual:

Automatic Transmission:
1. Ignition Off
2. Restore PCM Battery Feed
3. Turn OFF the A/C Control (if fitted)
4. Set Park Brake and chock road wheels.
5. Run engine at Idle
6. Shift transmission to D (drive)
7. Allow engine to Idle for 10 Minutes.
8. Turn ON A/C controls
9. Allow engine to idle for 10 Minutes
10. Shift Transmission to P (Park)
11. Allow engine to idle for 10 Minutes
12. Turn Off A/C Controls
13. Allow engine to idle for 10 Minutes
14. Turn Off engine for min 30 Seconds
15. Start the engine and Idle for one minute

Manual Transmission:
1. Ignition Off
2. Restore PCM Battery Feed
3. Turn OFF the A/C Control (if fitted)
4. Set Park Brake and chock road wheels.
5. Shift Transmission to Neutral
6. Start and Run engine at Idle
7. Turn ON A/C controls
8. Allow engine to idle for 10 Minutes
9. Turn Off A/C Controls
10. Allow engine to idle for 10 Minutes
11. Turn Off engine for min 30 Seconds
12. Start the engine and Idle for one minute.
