Can anyone tell me please how to identify an LS3 cam from say the code stamped on the end? I've just come across a cam I've had for ages in storage and am not sure if it's the LS3 one I got at one stage in order to do a stealth cam upgrade years ago before I went aftermarket in my SSV ute or whether it's an old L98 or L76 one. On the end it has stamped
3844
S 14
8261
Thanks,
Gaz
PS I have tried Google. :)

Can't help you out with the numbers, though a Ls3, L98 or L76 cam OEM will be single bolt style.

Thanks Mick - I'm sure given the cams I've had one way or the other that it's most likely probably L76, or LS3.

Yeah single bolt Gaz, but difficult to tell what it actually is. I never recorded the details off my LS3 cam before it was installed.

It's definitely a GM cam.
Easy way to tell if it's L76, the intake lobes will be significantly smaller that the exhaust due to the AFM lifters being longer. The LS3 intake lobes will be bigger than the exhaust.

I did think about that but was wondering if the differences in lobes would be obvious to the naked eye?

2 numbers I have on my computer for an LS3 cam are 12623063 and 12603844.... Wouldn't be this second one would it?
Vz l76 was three bolt to make it trickie I can have a look later wonky pretty sure I've got a couple ls3 cams kicking round

It's ok thanks Jason. When I had a close look I realised it wasn't the low km one I thought it was and had a bit of pitting, so just binned it.
