Hey guys,

I have a wh2 statesman and have a weird noise coming from the air conditioning air box.

It sounds like an old school typewriter as a solenoid rattles closed and open. It happens more so on LPG but not only. It happens under vacuum and not under vacuum (I also have a vacuum leak in the line) . When the engine has been running for over 20minutes or so it stops.

I have had it at a mechanic 3 times. I than went to a auto spark / air con guy 3 times and they can not find the problem. They identified there is an earth issue but can not locate it. They replaced the controller unit (twice), no change. Disconnected the BCM etc......

I have run out of options. Has anyone experienced this?

PS At the same time the horn goes off randomly, there is a click from the fuse box area.... and a couple of other weird things. This is messing with my head!!

Thanks guys

Swap the battery for a day and see if it goes away. Electrical gremlins always start there...

Thanks. Had a new battery replaced since this problem started. I will try it again.

Yep & check all your main Batt cables & accessible terminations/earths too.

Took the battery out for 2 hours and checked cables. Noise is just as bad. Thanks guys. Any other suggestions?

These things would have the earth under the ABS module? If so check that they seem to get forgotten about and have caused issues.

And to add mystery.... When the noise is going and you turn on the rear demister switch the noise changes to the demister relay in the fuse box

Sounds less mysterious and more like the advise of the people you have taken it to is correct, that it is an issue with an earth somewhere. There would have to be a common point where everything grounds to for those area's. Someone might be able to cime in here. Best I could suggest is if you have a multi meter is start looking for voltage drop in the ground circuit.

Yes, first place I'd be looking is end connectors first, then signs of loom damage or newly taped up sections of the loom. Generally the earths a crimped together in the loom as every item/accessory these days has a dedicated earth.
