Hi there

Best wishes to all for 2016.

Just picked up my new Calais-V and I can't find any mention of rain sensing wipers.

I had them in my VE but I've searched the manual and can't see the option to enable.

On the VE there was an "A" on the wiper stalk but not so on the VF.

Perhaps age is getting the better of me so please feel free to call me a silly old bugger if I've overlooked the option in the manual.

Could one of you guys kindly confirm one way or the other if rain sensor wipers are an option.

Cheers

Yes you too.
The brochure appears to mention everything but...typical of Holden skimping on the usual Calais features, did similar in the VE range when both front seats were motor driven though dropped that to driver only!

If this is true, what tight arses. It is one of my favourite features. Even daughters 2009 Golf has it.

Reading the brochure rain sensor wipers are a feature on the Calais-V.
Re-reading the owner manual it seems that it's automatically activated and the book suggests turning off wipers when entering automatic car wash.
Seems the wiper stalk on the left of the stearing wheel controls all wiper functions.

The Calais V should have them, I don't believe normal Calais got them...going by the reviews I've read anyway. No idea how to turn them on/off though

Just checked the brochure on the Holden site and they're definitely listed as standard on SSV Redline and Calais V

One click down on wiper stalk activates them on VE Calais V.
I have forgotten they are on and sprayed glass cleaner on windscreen, they scare the crap out of you lol

I have a VF SSV Redline and have found that the auto wipers work when the stalk is in the intermittent position. I have left it in that position and wondered why the wipers start moving when I am washing the car!!

Hi guys. Thank you all for your replies.
All sorted now.

By they way, loving this car. I upgraded from a VE Series 2 Calais-V and the VF (from my initial experience) is a nice step up.

The BiModal.......fantastic !

Cheers

I'm surprised the bi-modal is on the Calais to be honest, was very surprised to hear it - I would have thought Calais and SS buyers to be different types of buyer.

Does the Calais get the washing machine drain pipe or are the Calais buyers more upmarket than that? ;)

I get what you are saying, but some of us are not cardigan wearing future Camry drivers lol. Mine has cam, decked heads and full exhaust, no washing machine tubes though ;)

Just checked the stalk in my VE V and it says auto in the once click down position.

We just had a bucket full of rain in Sydney and the sensor wipers work as per previous suggestions.

The Calais-V comes with V6 standard. The V8 is an option ( as with previous models) and from my understanding the BiModel exhaust comes with all V8's...as it should.

And Black346 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Couldn't have said it better myself !

What a fun car to drive. Far superior to my old VE Series 2 Calais-V. I was always disappointed that it never sounded like a V8 should. Not a worry now !

I have both...what type of buyer does that make? :lmao:

Nice one mate, enjoy :) Out of interest did you order or did it come standard with LSD? My first mod on my VE was 3.45 LSD to replace the single spinner.

Best of both world perhaps

I looked at this too..all new LS3 powered Calais come with the 3.27 LSD  Exactly what I put in our Wags a few months after we bought it :yup:

As Micks said, the Calais-V with the V8 option gets LSD as standard. I also optioned for the high performance "police special" brakes for $350. As I'm still running the car in I'm not prepared to test out how "high performance" they really are !

So what does Police special get you?

Edit: This could start a whole new era of Police spec rumours lol

Special "Police Chip"?:hide:

My understanding on "police special" is that the brake package you purchase was fitted on the cars that Holden exported to the US as police cruisers. Essentially you get bigger front discs and calipers.
The high performance brakes are only available with the V8 option.

..bigger front disk rotors but SMALLER single pot front caliper
not sure of the logic but apparently with the right pad it suffers less fade

which of course makes a mockery of the huge disc/caliper combos on HSVs :)

Not necessarily...
It goes to a larger single piston as opposed to the smaller twins. The rotors are also only 24mm larger. The main difference in performance will come from the change in pads.
I would expect a bigger performance gain (not to mention a lot less dust) keeping the standard gear and putting decent pads and may be T3 rotors in it.

VF2 SS & SSV – Factory Upgrade – Front Only

Interestingly...

2 x 42mm pistons, has a surface area of 2770.88 mm squared.

1 x 60mm piston, has a surface area of 2827.43 mm squared.

So the single piston caliper would have a higher clamping force at a given pressure, than the 2 piston caliper...

They would of upgraded the master cylinder to a larger size for the large volume of fluid required.

Larger rotor would dissipate more heat than a smaller rotor, and the caliper has more leverage on a larger rotor than a smaller one.

So this single pot caliper / larger rotor is better than you think.

Multiple pot calipers aren't the be all end all there made out to be... They do have there place thou.

Look at Sukuki GSXR1000 when it first came out in 2001 and 2002, it had twin disk / twin 6 pot Tokico brake calipers for the single front wheel. From 2003 to current day the GSXR1000 now comes with twin 4 pot front

calipers. Even the Hayabusa has reverted from 6 pot to 4 pot front calipers too.

Back to HQ single piston front brake caliper technology hahaha...... BTW the HQ had a single 2.5 inch or 63.5mm piston, front caliper...
