Hi guys,
Ive got a VY SS with standard fe2 suspension, 18 inch 235/40 tyres, and new KYB struts in the front (i think the rims are 18x8.75). Theres plenty of guard clearance but Im noticing that if Im driving on the open at 100-110 km/h and go over a bump in the road there is tyre scrub on the passenger side front and back. Im not talking about hitting big dips and its not over every bump, just normal largish bumps in the road.
Is this normal? Any ideas why?
On a side note, the front passenger wheel sits out side the guard slightly and the others do not.

What is the offset on the wheels?
Got any photos of where it is rubbing?

Mate I'm not to sure of the offset as they came on the car. I tried to get in contact with the old owner but haven't heard back from him. Theres no obvious marking where it rubs, its just a scrape every so often only when traveling at speed, nothing around town. The same sound you'd get on a lowered car.
Maybe the springs are a bit spoungy? The rides usually firm.

There's possibly a stamp inside the back of each wheel which may tell you the offset. Most rims come in inch or half inch increments eg. 8", 8.5", 9" etc.. Assuming there is a stamp it will tell you the size.

The offset should be on the inside of the wheel. Usually on the back of one of the spokes or the hub mounting surface. Take a front and rear one off and check what they are. Will have something like 45P on there.
It's odd that only one side or wheel is different to the rest though. Could be an alignment issue or something not right under there from taking a bit of a hit. That may or may not be related to what you're talking about here though.

What I do know a VY with OEM GM alloys whether they are VT-VF. Obviously machined to fit the earlier will work with it's std offset & a max of a 255 width tyre front & bit more at rear. Different ballgame with aftermarket rims & need to be checked as the Lads mentioned above.
Get a mate to help out with this, drive down your street and brake hard, no skids but hard, get your mate to watch the front wheel and see if it moves forward or backward under braking load, this could be what you are experiencing. If it is you will need your front end suspension rubbers replaced.
Wheel outside the guard sounds like the car has been hit in the front end and not repaired properly.

Don't overlook too much forward castor too as my old VY2 One Tonner did same with with new bushes & larger wheels till I shimmed it back a notch.

Its definitely not un common for a different offset wheel to be accidentally sold in a set.
I had a set of 19"x8.5" Star racing wheels and found the same thing happened when I rotated the wheels, 3 were 45P and one 40P.
The 40P rubbed on the rear guard ever so slightly over large dips or when carrying passengers.
Ended up buying another 45P wheel and fitted a skinnier same diameter tyre to the 40P wheel to use as my spare.
I got 3x 9" and 1x 8" in the last set I bought...

This has been what I was thinking. I didn't get a chance to have a look last night but definately will over the weekend.
It's mainly happened on the front. Only once or twice in the back passenger side, but that was when I had a car load of people.
