Hey guys,
I have a full 3" Xforce system which makes good power on my blown VE ute but I am not sure I am totally happy with the sound. I have the Varex rear mufflers and was just going to ask what other brands are there for a potential swap for my rear ones now? Any recommendations?
In my opinion sound is such a subjective thing there really is no right answer but to explain roughly, mine is more of a scream/roah noise as opposed to that rumble/purr noise I love.
Another question and it may be silly, but there really is no way to "test" a set of mufflers I there?

What I know is Xforce make very competitively priced systems, know their systems do not restrict power output whatsoever. Many peeps don't like how they sound but as you say that's very subjective. Had three xforce systems so far & I don't mind them at all. My ol 6L Crewie gives exceptional numbers/manners for it's minimal mods using
a SS 2.5" catback :yup:

The Varex mufflers when open are quite a distinct sound which many people soon tire of - all noise but not a quality sound. I have a mate with a blown VF SSV Redline and it sounds awesome with a DiFilippo 3" Big Boy system (though very loud, even at idle). The KPM 3" system I had on my ute also sounded great (many people said it was the best sounding VE they'd heard).
Unfortunately it's going to be difficult to trial a set of DF or KPM rear mufflers unless you can find a local stockist (unlikely with KPM) or someone with a set you can bolt on temporarily to see how it sounds.
PS I have a KPM 3" system on the Senator but it's only the SLC system, not the Exhaust Technology system and isn't as good. I'm half tempted to swap my rear cans for either a KPM E.T. or DF Big Boy set too.

I've got a twin 3" system on my VY. Sounds so much better with headers and cats. I know you guys are talking about VE's but I just wanted to say I know XForces get a bad wrap but I reckon they are a good value for money system.

I’ve tried a few of the big name brands excluding KPM and for sure they are good but I’m another one that thinks Xforce gets a bad rap and it’s now easy for people to jump on that band wagon.
As Micks said, there’s no power loss by using an Xforce and if you’re running headers and high flow cats the sound isn't too bad either and when it comes down to value for money they are hard to beat.
The best way to test a set of muffles is to be patient and ask the exhaust shop to give you a call every time their installing something on a similar engine that may interest you and pop on over and have a listen.
Thanks to Tuned_LS1 for beating me to my own thoughts.

X-Force can be a great value for money system if you are a fan of the unique style of sound most of their systems make. In particular I was commenting on the Varex mufflers which make most cars sound like they have an open exhaust. All noise but no class IMO (and that of many others, including people I know who've sold them after a few months).

Hi guys thanks for the replies first of all. Let me be clear on one thing I've had 2 full XForce systems and enjoyed them both. I think bang for buck they are awesome. I'm not wanting to really change the whole system as I'm happy but maybe just the rear mufflers. I'm pretty keen now to simply bolt up some Defilippo mufflers at least to hear what the difference is in sound.
3 questions.
1-Will they bolt up to an XForce system or will it require modification?
2-will changing the mufflers be the main factor in getting a different sound i.e. Will it do the job?
3-who is in Sydney and wants to let me try something different haha

1. Not sure whether they'll be a direct fit or not. Have a look on http://dpe.net.au/index.php?route=product/category&path=44_45 to see their systems.
2. Rear mufflers seem to play the larger part in determining sound so I'm pretty sure they'll make a noticeable difference.

You get what you pay for...
Buy a decent system from the get go, you don't need rubbish Varex mufflers... There either too loud or too quite with zero quality of sound IMO...
If you have to change parts of a new system, because of poor design, you'll be chasing your tail, which your doing now...
I'd sell it, and buy a quality know quantity, designed cat back system...
Heard this happen so many times...

I have never given X a bad name but have read many threads over the years of people selling them and moving onto something different. Probably more thaqn any other system
If my opinion is asked I would suggest people do there research first.
If you enjoy your X system I am very happy for you.
This comment applies te VE's only.

I feel like you have twisted my words here. Let me say again I am very happy with XForce and the Quality of their systems. 100%. My previous apartment had a neighbour who complained about my car (as its blown and cammed) so the Varex is PERFECT for that. Its near silent when closed.
My point of the thread was not to rag on XForce, as my stainless system is beautiful. But I do want a different note from the mufflers hence the question for options. Your suggestion to sell the entire system for a different noise is OTT. Why would I sell the whole system that works well, and my tune is base upon when I am just saying I'd like to see if I can change the note?
So, back on topic...
I am not clever enough to work out if a Defilippo muffler will bolt to my system although it "looks" as though it might... Can anyone shed light here?
Also, I checked out EBay, Gumtree etc no mufflers for sale. Brand new they are like $480 each which is a bit  when I haven't heard the sound yet.

To answer the Op's question yes you can mix & match the mufflers with Xforce. I did the same with my L98 Crewman the rear can got smashed & Xforce had nil stock. I spoke to Pete @ Kirrawee mufflers http://www.kirraweemufflers.com/ who is an Xforce dealer & fitted me up with a similar rear can that sounded better than the original.

To put it simply, a good exhaust shop can make anything fit, even if you step up or down in diameter or something as easy as incorporating new bends to suit.
It's not fitment you need to concern yourself with, it's finding a muffler you like the sound of as the rest is easy.

Ive got a full s/s 3'' XForce system on my cammed VE SS V Sedan, was on the car when I bought it, I also have a set a 3'' Bolt on DPE Mufflers off the 3'' DPE Catback, which will not bolt on direct to the x/f without fabrication. I unbolted the XF Rears and unfortunately the DPE Mufflers are way off alignment.
Like others have said, really comes down to personel preference what sound you like, magnaflow mufflers sound good too

It looks great, works well, but sounds crap, where is the quality in that...
Some people like the sound, most people don't...
I didn't say sell the entire system, if you actual read what I said, I said to sell it and buy another "DESIGNED CAT BACK" system. Designed being the Operative word...
The quality of the sound comes from the combination of the 3 mufflers, not just the 2 at the back. So chopping and changing mufflers your stabbing in the dark...
You won't know how it will sound, until you modify it, spent even more coin, it could sound worse then what???...
You said it yourself and I quote "mine is more of a scream/roah noise as opposed to that rumble/purr noise I love". The scream/roah is not quality sound.
It'll be cheaper to sell your cat back and buy another that sounds how you want it to, IE a know quantity.
Buying 2 $480 rear mufflers, and paying extra to have them modified to fit, you'll be more out of pocket than selling your cat back, and buying another that sounds right for you.
Keep it simple...

But wouldn't changing the rear mufflers then end the ability to make it quite?
Varex system is pretty exy$ no? As stated, it might be easier and more cost effective to sell the varex as a whole and get a different system.
What kind of middle section does your exhaust have now? Single center muffler twin in/twin out, or the dual side by side hot dog style?
On my cammed 6.0 vz I loved my xforce, sounded great. I ended up with a varex resi as I too had trouble with neighbours and local police (also finishing work at 3am didnt help either)
I didnt notice much change from standard xforce rear resi, to varex rear resi (when open)
............ Worse case, just diff dump it. When it echo's between the car and the road is just a way better way to go =D
