Can someone explain pids to me,

Is it basically a software code allowing that data to displayed at a readable and understandable figure on a gauge for example?

Can they be changed in the tune or added in tunes for other items to see them etc?

Performance Information Data... think of them in this context as addresses.

PID in MoTeC land of Hardware Drivers is something different again..

Oh yeh sweet thanks that makes sense.

Reason I ask is,
I have edi in my e1 and there's a couple items that don't display. Someone said its because the car is tuned maybe the pids the edi needs for the items has been changed in the tune. Is that correct can the tune change pids?

No it's incorrect. PIDs don't get enabled in a tune per say. In some custom operating systems they can be modified though. But not really relevant to what your seeing

Ok then thanks. What about older pcms compared to the newer versions could a difference standard software version have pids in it. Say on 07 HSV to a 2013 HSV have the pids enabled?
If the software version gets changed will that erase a tune from it?

Jim at Sideshow is the man to see up there for that stuff as was one of the guys (main one being JezB down here) who worked out how to get EDI working on non EDI cars. I have full E3 conversion with EDI on my 08 Senator but apparently MRC can't be made to work due to differences in the set up.

As I said same same just different terminology for the exact same thing, as I posted above there are "different" PID's not at all related to obd-II...

Not arguing I just used what I was taught..
