Hi Guys, i recently took delivery of a new 2016 Caprice V with the LS3 engine. I have to say that I'm a bit surprised by the exhaust note which sounds s bit tinny and the amount of engine noise I can hear in the cabin. The Caprice's don't score the Bi-Modal exhaust or noise enhancer but I was expecting either a beefier note from the LS3 or utter silence in the cabin since its a Caprice. I previously had a WL Statesman with the 6.0 litre which was pretty quiet and also still have a Monaro CV8 with the LS1 which is also pretty quiet. Was the bi-modal exhaust introduced to cover the tinny sound of the LS3? Any thoughts?

Sounds like GM have just fitted the previous 6L exhaust to the Luxo! Perhaps an aftermarket zorst is on the cards ;)

Yeah, I wonder if the factory bi-model set up could be retro-fitted?

I have same on my VF2 SSV ute, basically a set of rear cans & the electrics to suit, but an aftermarket setup would be more cost effective ;)

Yeah, you are probably right - I'll see if the sound changes at all with more kms on the clock - have only covered less than a thousand kms so far but am driving to Qld soon - will also be interesting to see how it compares to my old WL 6 Lt Statesman when blasting pass B-trippes on the Newell Hwy.

blasting pass B-trippes on the Newell Hwy.Did that last year in the Senator. "Effortless" comes to mind. Enjoy the LS3 goodness!

The torque, performance, steering & handling of the new model is far superior to your WL & significantly improved on the VE's as well.

Does it have the twin exit rear mufflers, or the single out into dual tips? You could maybe try some quality replacement rear mufflers first and see if that improves the exhaust note and volume to your liking?

It has large dual tips as opposed to the quad tips as used on the previous 6.0 litre Caprice - I think they are actually the saame as used on the six cylinder but they (and the standard blade spoiler) do give the rear of the WN series 2 a distintive look. I might experiment with different rear mufflers in time.

Yes, I reckon you a correct, just used up the V6 stuff by the look of it. Even has the same rear diffuser it seems, plenty of room to fit quad tips if you so desire. Or just take the V8 badges off and let everyone think it is an alloytec lol

It really is the ultimate sleeper as it doesn't actually have and V8 badges!! - I acyually wouldn't mind an LS3 badge or two! But it is rolling on 19s, has a LSD, and I ordered the performance brake upgrade so its pretty nice mechanically and I got it in "Some Like it Hot" red - looks awesome even if i do say myself.

Sorry guys, it seems that as a new member I don't yet qualify to post pictures or links or even use an avatar untill I reach 10 posts on the site - as soon as I rack up the posts I'll post photos of my new Caprice V. Its going in for its one month check tomorrow - I'm pretty happy with it and keep discovering new things such as that it has tyre pressure sensors!

Nice car. They will be rare cars into the future. Great handling for such a big car. LWB is very nice on long drives.
Out of the box I wouldn't of thought the market they are for would want much of a V8 rumble.
