View Full Version : 20x10 fronts on VE SS

I am just wondering the pros and cons of running 20x10 wheels on the front of my VE SS, has brembo's. I had new wheels i ordered turn up last week, but the knob heads sent 20x10s all round with 255/35 tyres, i ordered 8.5 inch fronts. Anyway bolted them on, and drove around for an hour, no front rub , just alittle hit on the rears, as car sits ON SSLs. Noticed a dip in low end torque over current redline 19's
However took them off, and not sure if its safe on suspension ect with 10' wide front, ? I will try and get them otherwise sent back and changed for 8.5'', which is a total pain in the a@@se

Are they are within the guards with no scrape outs? Unless it looks ridiculous off course?

Doesnt rub at all on front, even tight turns, surprisingly enough. However im unsure if the 10'' fronts are not so good for suspension ect. As afr as looks good, they look fine.

I would be more worried about the additional strain on the steering rack.
With the change in sidewall height (width being a ratio of sidewall), they are probably 15mm wider than standard (approx) so I guess not too bad.

heres a pic I took sat, before I took em off, im still fuming that they ddint send 8.5 fronts as I ordered,

I think the tyres look too narrow on the rims. I would be chasing the 8.5" for the front but it doesn't look like you can go any wider on the back.
What offset are you running?

On the back of the rim, says 38+ Offset on all 4, 255/35 Invo Tyres. Unfortunately the c@@ts who sold me the wheels over east are being aRRholes about it, so I will either have to suck it up and run them on the car or find 8.5' for the fronts, or cut my losses and sell the wheels , think I will get rid of them, 20x10 I don't think look right on the front

The shop I got these on from over east, wont even swap the fronts for 8.5'', I even offered to pay for freight, it was clearly there fuk up, sending wrong front size, unbelievable customer service . upon a few calls , there is a set of the same wheels in perth at epic tyres 20x8.5 and 20x10 , but because im 500 kms out of perth, they don't even know if the 8;5 will clear the brembo with out dummy fit, so I may drive down yet. However if I buy these then I will have 8 friggen wheels ,and my wife will kill me. I will never buy interstate agai.

How about you buy 4 x 8.5" and they you can sell 1 set of the 2x8.5" and 2x10"

Mate that is absolutely BS. If you ordered 8.5 inch then they have to legally replace them. Those tyres are way to small as well for 10 inch they should be 285 min for 10 inch rims.

Yea im not happy, the pricks deceivingly sent this package over i wanted 275/35 tyres rear and 345/35 front-These c@@ts sent 20x10 255/35 all round plus 20x10 not staggered i been in contact, held my cool, waiting to see if they will accept me freighting 2 wheels back, otherwise im going office fiar trading.

Furthermore when i ordered and spoke to the dickhead, i said it had to be staggered as car is getting engineered next month for the staggered wheel. There response was but 8.5' look s##t on from, wont listen at all,

I second that, any consumer issues interstate, they don't want a bar of it, they basically give mis informed information anyway and in some cases make a situation worse,

anyone thinking of buying new wheels , steer clear of this business East Coast Tyre and Auto Southport, they order wheels and tyres online -Facebook and the actual order goes to Ozzy Tyres wharehouse in NSW , the delivery and packaging from NSW is very good, and if I had gone direct with Ozzy Tyres im sure I would have got excatly what I wanted as you can order off there website, but the guy who orders the wheels at ECTA isn't so good, he goes off his own back and orders what he thinks looks best. on questioning the guy why he ordered 20x10 all round, his response was because the 8.5 will look s@@t , the guy wont listen.

yea he properly deals with a lot of 18 yo's who want the biggest bling wheels and have no idea being in my 40's I should have known better. Anyway im over it, have done all I can my end to resolve the issue, which is pretty simple fix, but they wont play ball. so ive listed the wheels for sale, if I get what I want, then I will go a staggered set of koya's SF06 in 19's . I personally cant see or wait months for office of fiar trading to do ther thing.

But didn't you got a copy of the order confirmation showing the quoted items and delivery prices outlining the order specifications for both the rim sizes and offsets and the tyre brand and sizes?

If you have that and the order hasn't been filled as per the quote then they legally don't have a leg to stand on.

Correspondence was via message and phone, they actually never sent a order confirmation, only once I paid, I then received a text a few days later that the wheels were shipped. I stated in email/phone I had to have staggered 20x10 and 20x85...yes I know I should have got the order confoirmation as per say before I paid.

However my hounding has worked, they are sorting this drama out tomorrow.

After loads of wrangling, ect and to there credit ,they accepted the wheels back and freighted back to them at there cost, only this week, did I get a full refund on the wheels and tyres $3300 ,
After putting 2 and 2 togeather, they never had 20x8.5 in stock and if they did, they would not even clear the brembo front brakes, they were hoping id be happy with 20x10 on fronts and just take them , unfortunately for them money doesn't grow on trees and old enough to realise running 20x10 on front of my VE SS is DUMB!!, anyway its all history now and alittle more relieved its sorted, I am looking at a new set of genuine 19'' Staggered VF SS Redlines 2016/15 , they should look quite nice on my ve

Good to hear it all worked out mate. I like the thought of genuine rims over aftermarket. I have staggered VE R8 rims on my Calais, and they fit over Brembos as well.

I have aftermarket on atm, which im selling to go back on with genuine VF SS Redline OEM rims, which I think will suit the car and being 19's be abit cheaper on tyres.

Would a 19x10.5 with 275/35 19 tyre fit the rears ok on a ve ss with coilovers, ? Guards are rolled already, have decided to choose either the redlines 19x8 19x9 as pictured or koya SF06 19x9.5 0r 10.5 rear with 19x8.5 fronts, the wheel shop im ordering priced up both with KU39 tyres and the koya package is abit cheaper, the wheel bloke at the shop, said the koya would be a lighter wheel, with concave on the back

A 19x10.5 rim with a 275/35R19 tyre will fit the rear of a lowered VE with the guards rolled depending on the offset.

I wouldn't goes any more aggressive than a +42 offset otherwise the rim will start to protrude too far outside the guard which could mean modifying the fasteners on the rear bar and attracting rego and police attention.

The current 20x10 on the rear now is 40 offset and its just flush with guard , so the 42 sounds about spot on. Will have to do speak again with the wheel shop, and see what they recommend, as they said 9.5inch rear initially which properly be better but wont look as fat as a 10.5''

I know they are not the best photos are they’re a bit far away but these are 10.5 inch rears with 275 tyres and even though they are 20’s they have the same overall diameter as the combo you’re evaluating to use.

The offset is +42 and the rim is just flush with the guard and there is no scraping.

Personally I don’t like the stretched look of a 275 on a 10.5 rim but the tyres are new and I don’t wish to just throw them away, so they’ll stay until they need replacing and then I’ll fit a set of 285’s which my tape measure says will also fit without rubbing the guard.
