Hi all,
I was doing my usual trawling of ebay/Gumtree for commodore related stuff and saw a bloke selling a vx ss for $2300, which got me thinking how much it would b worth in parts?
That's about the cheapest I've seen one, especially since it's still running. Perfect if you needed a donor motor and all the accessories.
What would be the value of all the other bits and pieces + body shell?

Sort of been down this road...
Basically for a SS the engine/gearbox and possibly diff have value, but the rest of the car isnt worth much. Its worth doing a HSV or Calais (with say leather interior) as it has more sort after bits....
As a money making exercise its not worth the hassle (especially dealing with the drop kicks that gumtree usually attracts), if your buying it for the engine conversion then you can make a little extra back. The biggest advantage to buying a running car for a conversion is you get ALL the bits. Its the engine accessories that get expensive from a wrecker (Eg alternator brackets, water pump, aircon bits etc).
As a money making exercise there are much better cars to part out (Eg old landcruisers)

If its got extractors they always sell quick, if diff in good nick they sell quick aswell.
If panels good you might get a guy who needs front panels same colour etc
But interior trims etc not worth much etc If you got it for $1500 engine and trans would get that back.

Wheels might bring some cash for earlier models if in good nick.

As Errol mentioned if you have a use for the drive train it would be cost effective. Back in the early 90's I bought a written off VK Calais which was rear ended.
It had a recent refurbed VL 5.0L unleaded motor with the larger valved heads. At the time I had a nice VL Calais sedan with a six pack, once I completed the swap
the engine & box cost me nothing, only paid for the required a few VL parts only from GM. The VK interior & dash/cluster were immaculate & netted great $$$ at the time.

Lsjuan and box are pretty cheep these days, I'm seeing less and less of pre VZ on the roads so the boat may be missed.
Lowball the hell out of it then that justifies it sitting at your house for 12mths

I've got back just over $2K so far for my parted out VU-SS. I kept the LS1-T56 and wiring harness/computers but everything else was for sale.
Still got the two front doors, brake calipers and discs, rear springs and other odds and ends, so the rest might be going to the tip soon...

You need desirable parts, room and patience. Being pedantic about cataloguing all the parts, good photos and better advertising help it all go.
If you are going to be half-ass, I don't recommend it.

Yes, patience is a virtue!
My parting out exercise has been running since May 2010 and sold $240 worth just the other day.
Take good photo's and keep updating your gumtree ad.
