So for anyone interested Here is my build im starting.

Youtube Series is here Subscribe!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1l0u9ATOfq4

I will be needing a lot of help from the members here as a lot of things on this car will probably have only been done one or twice from info I can find,

Now before I Start let me start off by saying the car was purchased with no interior, motor or box. The plan was to be a budget build and building what I wanted not what you think it should be. My previous car was a Mercedes E55 the last of the Supercharged V8s. I have always loved the sound and feel of a V8 and on the same note I have always loved the timeless look of the 911 so I shopped around looking for a project as I never had plans of a doing a resto.

Behold my 76 911 that came with a 993 widebody. So I jumped in the car and drove to sydney and pick up my ride.

So the plan is to give it a GT2/RSR look but run a turbo LS1. The transaxle is a custom built one for me from a company in Sydney.

This will be purely home built and on a budget. You are all welcome to offer ideas and help on anything you think me assist. I'm open to keeping this group build I'm just not interested in any of your purist opinions. I was thinking of making Youtube vlogs nothing high quality but more of update evey few days rather than one a week or month. Whats everyones thoughts.

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/IMG_1909.jpg
So lets get started.

So I have started on fitting my GT2 flares and working on making my roll cage. I picked up a cage from an alfa 105 which is almost the same size. with a few easy mods it should fit quite easily as the main hoop is the same size.

So first job is to remove the remaining interior and clear away some of the dynamat for the mounting plates for the roll cage. I tell ya this **** was a pain to remove Super sticky and sharp like a torn coke can. But im glad the car had it as the LS1 will be loud!!

This was the cage I picked up

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/IMG_3562.jpg

and starting to strip interior and dynamat

now for a quick test fit.

Ill try weld the 2 "X" braces in this weekend.

Also my white gagues and wheels have arrived.
The wheels are 3 piece Monacos 18x9 front and 18x11 rear with 305s Pilot Sports all round the centres will be going gloss black

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/IMG_3333.jpg

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/IMG_3282.jpg

Next I spent a few hours playing with my flares i was keen to see how the fit was with my wheels as I was worried about the offset. So it was time to get cutting.

I know what it feels like to be Nakai now and cut up a 911 lol

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_3607.jpg

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/IMG_3553.jpg

So I drilled some holes and added bolts and done

Now the fan part. I was not going to waste money with a ****ty 915 so instead went with a custom box for a lot les money and the internals are all brand new. The box is a STI 5 speed with the rear drive unit removed and shortened I went with a the oversize ring and pinion and and double syncros on 1,2,3. Single syncros for the rest. it comes in shorter than a 901 box and will allow my to have the engine a little higher and forward more.

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_3680.jpg

this is compared to a 901

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_3677.jpg

now the output for porsche is bottom the ooutput for subaru is top so im goung to run an exposed shifter link sorta like a spyker

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_3678.jpg

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_3679.jpg

Now the above pics show the fin in a 912 the 911 has a slighty bigger tunnel so the fit should be very easy. Ill mount my shifter higher and and cut down the throw.

I just picked up my gated shifter for that chink sound lol

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/10exa/IMG_3145_1.jpg

Today ill be making me seat adaptor plaes and finishing off my cage and starting on my strut brace

This appeals on so many levels.

Thoughts on scoobydoo box, have you changed any of the glass internals out to cope with turbo lsjuan?

MrRPJ
18-10-2016, 05:19 PM
well it was that or the old porsche 915 box which is shit even brand new. So my suby box has an oversized ring and pinion that cut in reverse. and brand new gearset, double syncros on 1,2,3 and a torsen LSD, Hopefully it holds up lol

I did a tuning trip to the Philippines in may & tuned a RWB 993 with an ls3 in it. It still had the stock box in it. It went ****ing quick, pretty light weight sadly the roads/traffic sucked so bad over there.

Time will tell

Be good when this is done, import & non-import running 993 are drug money nowadays. Actually any 911 with some years on it are.

Did you have the lsjuan laying around to use and get it on the road, did you look at a 6+ litre?

Dude believe it or not RWB victoria was the whole reason for my build. I seen a few Pics on the net then found out it was LS and was like im doing that! Minus the 20k body kit. I decided to run the GT2 clubsport widebody. One question they never show the cooling set up what did it run and where?

Zorro they guy who made my box makes them for a few different applications but it was one of thing for both of us so he knows there is a chance it might let go but we will cross that bridge later i have a feeling drive shafts will let go before the box does. and yeah anything airccoled body and a coupe are all 60k plus nowadays 993 body starts at 100k crazy hey!

Actually the engine is the only thing I dont have yet lol as they are cheap and easily found. the 6l is a little to pricey for me at the moment. As I sold my AMG just to buy the car and didnt have much left over.

MrRPJ
19-10-2016, 11:42 AM
Tre Cool RWB victoria is the whole reason for my build after seeing pics and videos of it on the net I wanted one so bad. So I sold My AMG and brought the 911. I would like to go 6L but im running out of money fast lol and only budgeted for a 5.7.
And yeah the price for aircooled porsches now is crazy. anything coupe is 60k+ and a 993 will run your over 100k and 300k for the turbo model!!
Believe it or not the engine is the only thing i dont have yet. I thought since they were cheap enough I could get one any time as im limited on room for now to store it while the body is in pieces.

Only prob with the LS1's they're getting some decent K's on them now, as locally they were finished here back in 2005.

yeah thats true anything less than 150xx will do for the project

Cooling was my next question, guess they use the standard setup, I couldn't image much more seeing the std ls rads aren't that thick a core, surface area though could be the enemy. However from memory the old mans 911 days majority of coolant and water pipe runs up the drivers side (rhd models) but gauge is small for package reasons.

Bear in mind at these K's you'll be looking at a lite overhaul, valve springs/seals & perhaps oil pump too, have seen many VY series 2+ with crook oil pump regs that require a minor tear down to replace the pump as not worth repairing. Recommend doing this @ any rate whilst the LS1 is on the floor much easier!!

Being an ex Porsche mechanic, and an LS1 lover, I am pretty interested to see this one finished. I am thinking cooling will be an issue, especially where to mount radiators?

Yeah "Victoria" runs radiators in the front & has an electric water pump. There is no way you could run a normal belt pump in there. I took some pics/video's when i was over there.

I'll upload some pics later tonight when im at home. The biggest problem it had was engine bay temps when stationary. Once it got going the air temps would drop quick but it was humid as all hell when i was there. Worse then north queensland type humid.

Ill run thermos on the back of the 2 main ones and have run all the time. hopefully that should be enough to keep it cool if not i have room in my wing for an extra one

It s been a busy few weeks. I decided to scrap the g50 pedal set up and go full Tilton Pedal box with triple remote reservoir, I think it will suit the Ls swap and make life a little easier. I started work on fixing my dinted doors and got the car in primer.

next job is to finish the doors off, sand the bumpers and fenders and finish fixing my cracked fender.

I get a lot of questions on my transaxle so I might make a video on it next showing everyone how it works and what i got.

Justin from ultimate conversion wiring can do the vats and auto/man swap but he's not the most pleasant and helpful guy to deal with - In my experience.

sorry and to answer your question yes I have a full auto loom i need changed to manual. The easier the better i just wanna give it power and fuel and make it run. I have a question tho for the ls gods. do i use the ls to control fuel pump or just run a stand alone full time. second question is if i use the ls to control it does it make it a returnless system and if i fun a stand alone pump do i need a return line? cheers

If you're on the bigger side I suggest the cobra seats. I am 6"3 and a bit heavier and no hope of getting in the sparco 2000.

Ended up getting a set of cobra Suzuka GT seats from revolution race gear. Really good quality and very comfortable... IIRC I paid $1250ea last year (negotiated with them). I can measure height if you like...

Small update. I had a delay on the left fender. the one I found he decided the shipping was too expensive and pull the plug on me after 3 weeks of stuffing around. So I ended up finding a mint NOS fender but as my luck would have it. It was Run over by a forklift and pancaked the nose. Lucky for me I know when I'm outta my depth and I didn't want any filler in the nose of the fenders as they do hold the bumper and take a bit of flex and a crack was the last thing I wanted. lucky for me I know an amazing metal guy who file finished the finder to brand new

It looks great man, lots of work.

For what my opinion is worth, I think I'd leave the wheels as they are with silver centres.

Correct. I plan to drive the wheels off the thing i have 9 mod plates so hopefully it should be enough to keep the boys in blue away. thats plus its over 40 years old now so technically its a classic car.

Cool project man and I realise it's probably only mocked up but have you got something in mind for the oil pan and filter like a skid/bash plate or dry sump arrangement? Maybe it's just the photo but they look really vulnerable.

Nice work, whatever oil pan they use for a HQ - WB ls1 conversion should be the ticket then, alternatively I think some of the yank cars like F bodies and maybe Vettes have the rear pan arrangement.

May be howled down for this though the problem I see it will be difficult to purge the air from the cooling system with those pipes rising above both the engine & Rad.
perhaps a few bleed valves may help in the top of those?

Yeah I thought about that and fitte the expansion tank above the motor in the boot.

Awesome build mate. Im in nz and want to do an LS swap on my 996. How is the subaru gearbox going? How much abuse have you given it? I'm thinking of going the subaru gearbox way also as my 996 is auto and porsche boxes go for a lot

MrRPJ

996 boxes are stronger and cheaper than subi boxes. They bolt straight in. I’d go a 996 manual.
