Is it at all possible to install paddle shifters on the current LS3 Caprice? I've called a few tuners and so far no go.

Thanks,
Greg.

Talk to Jezz @ JSB Performance, sure he can help.

No point when you have a big heavy car and a non dual clutch gearbox.

It maybe a big heavy car, but with alittle tune and some extras "big girl can run" :burnout:

Paddle shifters sound like they could be a bit of fun for the 1/4

I was in Melbourne last week and jeremy from JSB Performance did my Series 1 VF GTS paddle shift upgrade. All up was about $800 including new wheel and paddles with loom
He did the Performance page upgrade on the dash read out which gives Oil Pressure,Oil temperature,Coolant Temperature and a few other things i cant remember now, cost $150 extra

Yes there is! Mate of mine runs 10s in his WM Grange with paddles and ran 270+kmh in 20.8 at the Temora 1000. :burnout: He does find they get in the way for hillclimb twisties etc..

Hardly.. My wife's Subaru Outback is a hoot to drive with the paddle shifters. It's nice to be able to drop back a gear or two without having to lean on the pedal harder or remove your hands from the wheel. I miss them when I jump back into my auto daily VE.

From what I understand the factory install as per the VF (which will go up/down a gear, hold for 7 seconds and then go back to auto mode) isn't possible, but a generic paddle shifter kit which simply hooks into the wiring on the shifter is piece of cake. You might be able to use the VF wheel/paddles in that regard too.

I was looking at these on ebay, not sure of the logistics of getting them onto a VE.

those are just extensions for the factory paddles, you'll need the actual paddles/switches, etc. as well.

I fitted the vitesse paddles to my Gen F GTS. Fitted straight in the Gen F wheel.

VE is easy! I just had a set of these (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/301940507335) fitted on the Senator on Tuesday. The actual paddle shifters themselves are an extra $170, otherwise you just use buttons on the steering wheel back cover. I was fortunate to get my paddles from the Grange owner I mentioned previously and he went back to the buttons for hillclimbs etc..

The most time consuming part, which would be much easier with practice and correct tools, was removing the airbag. After that, remove a couple of trims, run an extra wire from the side of the console to under the dash and reassemble (simplified). Love 'em!!

Gaz have seen those dudes on FB, I thought it would have been keener for Jez to do the job the right way?

I gather VF is much trickier so for them I'd definitely use Jez as he's a guru Mick, but these kits have been around for VE for years now and well and truly proven.

it's not trickier per se... both can have paddles added quite simply, however JSB can offer factory integration on the VF which allows you to go up/down gears in normal drive mode, which it will hold for 7 seconds and then go back to doing it's own thing.
the generic kits simply actuate the gears in sports mode as per the shifter.

nice! EDI as well?

i'm going to have the E3 IQ setup put into my E1 senator as well. mainly for the integrated bluetooth/iphone connectivity; my series 2 omega has it, it's a pain jumping into the senator and not being able to flick through my music, or getting siri to set me a reminder as i so often do whilst driving. :D

Yep, full E3 with reverse camera, EDI, TPMS etc, all done by the maestro Jez. :goodjob:

Don't know if it's possible to use Siri (which I've only ever seen on tv) or an equivalent in E3 iQ?

certainly is! my Series 2 Omega wagon does it, double press the phone button on the steering wheel.

i commonly use it to give me directions, set reminders, read messages/emails, etc. very handy.

Thanks everyone. I'm a chauffeur, and this has NOTHING to do with performance - I like the extra control afforded by shifting myself, but don't like the distracting hand movements when I have passengers. It also feels like it just *might* be a bit easier on the transmission shifting OFF the throttle in a more predictive manner (like we do with a true manual), but this is pure surmisal on my part. I'm in Sydney, so JSB aren't applicable, but I may give them a call anyway. I'm waiting to see whether the dealer can do something for me too. I haven't got the vehicle yet - it will be delivered in the new year. I currently have a '12 V6 Caprice.

Btw, if I could have the full integration, where I can paddle shift in D, with the auto fallback to A, that would be fantastic!

Jez now has a lot of stuff he can do remotely (not sure how much, if any, on VF yet but heaps on VE) so he may be able to supply any required hardware and supply a USB type dongle to do the software side.

Thanks - I have in fact just had a chat with JSB - it can't be done remotely, unfortunately - if I was down there it may have been possible. The dealer said they can't do it either, but I'm going to push them a bit harder before I give up with them. Apparently I still have the option of installing the simple kit that does require the shifter to be moved over to the Sports/Tiptonic position - I'll probably take the risk with that if I can't get the full version. There are kits for this on Ebay and the seller swears that it will work on the Caprice.
