Hi all,
I have a query about an HSV Avalanche re the transition from VY series 2 and Vz. The avalanche in question has a build plate indicating December 2004. The VIN has it as a 2005 model and has a 'Z" indicating a z series - however, putting the VIN into HSV's vin authentication brings a VY series 2 result).

It has a transmission code of MD6, which according to this site indicates a 4L65-E transmission:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:514FBS8LOAUJ:cp.o2.cz/www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/RPO_(Regular_Production_Option)_GM_master_list+&cd=6&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=nz

I thought the avalanche got the z series upgrades only from March 2005 and the 4L65-E transmission was a z series change. Does this mean the Avalanche I am looking at ought to have the earlier 4l60-E transmission OR did the avalanche always get the 4l65-e, even in Vy series?

Thanks very much for any help you can offer,
Scott.

Pretty sure the HSV's all got the 4L65e. But have PM'd you on this.

Are you looking at a Wagon or Ute? All Ute's got the 4L65 because the XCross 8'S had them OEM

Wagon's, well that's where opinions differ, I believe HSV were to lazy to change the Tranny in the VY Adventras, which was the 4l60
What's the Tranny code on it

and Holden/HSV lost the plot in 04-05 and the VYII VZ Transition was a bit mashed.

The car build number should be on the dash when you start. If it's a low number like less than 50 it should be the vz.
What about fly by wire throttle, was this vz only or mashed like above.
My vz plate says below

Very Late VYII were flyby wire and had the split engine cover
