I was having a look around the Holden website and I notice Holden are now offering extended FACTORY warranties on their cars. You can chose extra distance, extra time or some combos of both:

Below is what Holden offer on a Calais V LS3 2017 model:

Extras: •Extended Warranty

The Holden Extended Factory Warranty is a full extension of the cover provided with the 3 year 100,000km new vehicle warranty supplied with each new Holden. It includes Holden Roadside Assistance for the balance of your original Holden warranty period as well as throughout the Holden Extended Factory Warranty. The Holden Extended Factory Warranty is designed to provide piece of mind and surety for customers so that they may continue to enjoy their Holden driving experience beyond their new vehicle warranty period.

Additional 12 months or 100,000 kms from new: $1,560*
Additional 12 months or 150,000 kms from new: $1,790*
Additional 24 months or 100,000 kms from new: $1,765*
Additional 24 months or 175,000 kms from new: $2,035*
Additional 36 months or 100,000 kms from new: $2,060*

About time they started offering this, in fact when they go full import I think they need to offer 5 year warranty included, especially as the new Commodore will be a direct competitor of the Toyota Camry and a much better warranty might entice typically conservative Camry buyers across.

For me when it comes time to trade in the Cascada, buying a new one with a 5 year/100,000km warranty would be great, I do about 20,000kms a year nowadays so having peace of mind for 5 years would be great.

I thought you could purchase a longer warranty a long long time ago? They even used to extent the factory warranty automatically if you serviced at the dealer the entire time. Which with capped priced servicing isn't too bad of a deal really.

2016 plate models were getting 5 year warranty and road side assist as part of the 4 day sale...3 years is pretty piss poor tbh when 5 seems to be the norm.

I've noticed in recent years Holden have offered 5 year warranties when they are doing some sort of factory sale but that's it - not as a permanent offer.

I'm under the impression that the extended warranty if you get the car serviced at the purchasing dealer is a dealer only thing, I've got that with my Cascada.

.. not new this !

I bought an extra 3 year warranty/road side assist from Holden (it is actually directly with a guy in their customer service you deal with)
but a dealer has to be involved (does not have to be the selling dealer.. as was my case) who gives you and attaches
to your car's handbook a warranty extension certificate (the warranty belongs to the car)

I paid (this from memory) $1860 for 36 months/100,000km extension to the factory warranty at the time I bought the HSV
(note HSV are NOT involved in this, I initially spoke to them and they referred me to Holden's Customer service)

My question is why? My last Calais V I bought has zero issues period! In my case it's a waste of money & better spent elsewhere ;) By all means if you think it's worth it go for it, your money your choice.

Yes, I would much prefer a factory extended warranty then the dealer thingy. It wasn't on the website back in May 2015 so never new of the factory extended warranty.

On the convertible Cascada I would have liked a factory extended warranty, it's been fine but our Cruze 's gearbox died at the four year mark and I wouldn't want s repeat experience (even though Holden came to the party and replaced the box at no charge).

I got quoted $2400 (which they reduced from $2700) for a MY16 GenF2 LSA Clubsport R8 for 36 months or 100,000kms.
does that sound about right?

Totally agree! I've now had 6 V8 Commodores since 2003 (all but one bought brand new and my current 08 Senator effectively new when I bought it 2 yrs ago exactly with 13,000km on it) and only ever had trivial problems with any of them. TWOTAM (total waste of time and money) IMHO buying an extended warranty on a Commy V8, especially if you're going to modify as most of us do. Holden imports are a totally different ballgame!

things do still go wrong.

Brand new 16 built VF2 SS and air cond is all over the place with temp and fan speeds. lucky I got the 5yr warranty inc.

our VE SS had a few minor issues a well all fixed with warranty.

as stated 5yr 150000kms should be the standard now.

when I was involved in helping my daughter buy a Kia Sorento 3 years ago
I was pleased to see on the paperwork, in the handbook and a sticker on the rear screen which said
7 Year Unlimited Kms factory warranty

and when the missus got her 1 series BMW it came with a 5 year Unlimited Kms warranty
so
I just can't figure why Holden can't do this sort of thing all the time ... with all their models

The extended warranty is utter bullshit, a complete ripoff!!!

Bought this with the wife's new Cruze TD, when I went to use said extended warranty I didn't have one,

they cancelled it years ago. When I purchased they told me after normal warranty finished they had to service,

I complied however, when I went to claim they said, all services had to be done by them from new

on wards for warranty to be valid, they just find a way to get out, not worth a pinch of shit, don't waist your money.

Sutton's are the biggest rip off I've ever seen, caught them trying to replace complete brake system (discs and all) and it wasn't even half worn.

Have photographic evidence of all, back brakes had 4 mm of pad left. Left it another 20,000 klm and let Sonny do it for a 1/3 of the cost they quoted.

Just shockers, lucky a mans a mechanic or they would've got me, they did with the warranty anyway.

Cheers

Steve

.. that sounds very much like a DEALER Extended warranty (the Holden warranty is not so intrusive with its requirements)

I had one of those included in the purchase of a new VE SSv wagon I bought from Brighton Holden in Melbourne
.. an absolute PITA they were to deal with. The fine print required servicing at 10k intervals (not 15k).. and NO !
it could NOT be done at another dealer ( a big hassle as I had changed jobs and now worked 35kms away)
Plus .. they were always saying THIS (whatever.. like an injection clean) MUST be done to keep the warranty going

There is no way I would pay for a dealer based extended warranty program....:cussing:

The official "Holden" policies are an extended policy underwritten by Allianz who can be a giant bunch of dicks to claim stuff from. 90% of the time it's fine but I've seen some fairly big claims denied as a result of some kind of bullshit technicality when Holden warranty would have covered the claim.

you dont deal with Allianz if you want to use the extended warranty. You claim the same way you do normally, front a dealer
they assess it, approve it (use Holden normal guidelnes) and repair it same way as usual. Holden pay dealer... Insurer pays Holden
(and sometimes insurer will pay dealer direct, if urgent)

No that's not how it works. The dealer has to approach Allianz to claim like any other extended warranty claim and Allianz assess via their own guidelines. The "official Holden" policy does cover a little more than their "retail" policies but the Allianz claims controllers are somewhat difficult to deal with and look for any way out of a claim. Once the factory warranty has expired, even though it's an official policy the dealer deals directly with Allianz and not with Holden.

The warranty is only as good or worthless... as the "Facts" in the fine print of the PDS...

Its a Allianz warranty, disguised as a Factory Warranty...

An Allianz representive or the issuing Holden Dealer of the Factory Extended Warranty, is the authorised representative of Allianz.... Not Holden...

Allianz acts as the administrator of this warranty for Holden.

Quote below from PDS...

"The roles of those involved
in this warranty
Issuer:
GM Holden Ltd. (“Holden” or “Holden Australia”) of

and “our” in this warranty document, issues and

and is not required to by reason of exemptions that apply
to it under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).

this product from a Holden dealer, the dealer who
provided you this Holden Extended Factory Warranty

Allianz also plays a role in the distribution of this product.
Allianz and Holden dealers are authorised by Holden to
issue, vary and dispose of the warranty on Holden’s behalf."

On Servicing...

Recommended to be done by Holden dealer or "Service Provider" (nice vague statement, whatever the hell that is...)

Quote from PDS...

"Servicing your vehicle
In order for this warranty to remain valid, it is a
requirement that your Holden is serviced in accordance
to the instructions specifi ed for the vehicle by us. It is
recommended that all servicing is carried out by an
authorised Holden dealer.
If you do not comply with these servicing and operating
requirements, we may refuse a claim or cancel this
warranty.
When you present your vehicle for service, please pass
the appropriate owner literature, along with your Holden
Extended Factory Warranty certifi cate, to the dealer
service personnel. Once the service is complete, please
ensure that the service provider or dealer (if applicable)
stamps (validates) each completed service in the
Schedule service record (refer to “Schedule service
record” section on pages 33 of this warranty document)."

Everybody is entitled to there own opinion... and IMO.... Any Extended Warranty, Whatever it claims to be..... is a Complete Waste Of Money...
