For my HQ LS1 conversion I have decided to go with an in tank pump and wanted to know if anyone has had experience with the Phantom setup from Aeromotive and if it's worth the money? Or if there's a better setup?

Cheers,
Steve

VE fuel system fits into a stock HQ tank with a couple of mods and some minor fab work to the boot floor. I found it's the best fuel setup to use as everything is inside the fuel tank, pump, reg, swirl pot...

Got any other details? Looking at doing similar in my VL tank...

Will VZ be the same (I've got s VZ SS donor)? And details would be great if you have them.

From memory VZ was too tall. VE is a very short stubby system because the VE tanks are like HQ in the front where the pump lives. I got the weld in kit from EFI Hardware in Victoria. The fuel level sender also works with an Autometer gauge which was another bonus. I just had to bench calibrate the float arm to the gauge.

I can't find the pics I had of the cut in the floor, all you need to do is chop out a square and make a 2" tall cap to cover the top of the pump and the line coming out of it. In the end I got rid of the stock tank and had a custom one made that was 2" deeper so the pump stayed under the floor (had the boot floor replaced when it was mini tubbed). M&C Dean Fabrications knocked this up for me.

Cheers Kris.

Did you hvae any "rego" issues with the larger fab tank? I'll need to get mine engineered and abit hazy on the rules around tank sizes etc..

Nah no issues what so ever. My car is also engineered for a 'non standard fuel tank' anyway but noone has spot checked it because it doesn't hang low like an 80's drop tank.

Good stuff :headbang:

Checked out their FB page looks like they do some nice work. Thanks for the advice.

Oh and they're stainless steel tanks so you won't have rust issues to look forward to either.

Just an update, I went with the Holley in tank pump - it's returnless and won't need a pressure regulator;

https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_pumps_regulators_and_filters/fuel_pumps/efi_fuel_pumps/efi_in-tank_pumps/parts/12-131

When I can get some space in the garage I'll video the install if anyones interested.

Sooo.. I've been a slack @rse and only just got around to working on the tank. I cleaned it up with a wire brush on the grinder and came up better than I expected :-)

Gave it several washes out and filled it with water then grabbed the 3 1/4 hole saw for the pump hole

I use the KBS stuff for chassis paint and tank stuff - if you've never used this gear its brilliant

The pump I got is the 455LPM high flow which is (I now know) slightly larger then the oteher options needing 190mm clearance and the sedan tank is 150mm (sigh)

So if you are using the Holley pump for a Tonner it would be perfect!
After some thinking, cursing, and more thinking I've removed the internal 60psi regulator which recovered the 40mm I needed and will run an external adjustable one - which is prob not a bad thing anyway. I'll run the return line fro mthe external reg back to the factory vent line on the tank and use the Vent on the pump top to allow better flow.
