As part of my new package at work I get a company car, which suits me as right now I am driving an old lancer. The car has to be new/demo and i have $30- $35k to spend with $35k being absolute top end.
Unfortunately this doesn't leave a lot of options however I am considering the following:

VF II SV6 - depends if I can find one within the budget

Insignia VXR - some really cheap driveaway deals, loaded with kit, good specs but reviews are average

Hyundai Elantra SR Turbo - loaded with tons of kit and still a bit of fun to drive. Have test driven and was really impressed

The car will be driven to work and back (10km each way) some weekend use around town and i will occasionally have my 2 year old in the back. So I don't need a large car but after 5 years of driving slow boring appliances i am keen to get something that will be a bit of fun.

Keen to hear thoughts in the above and any other cars you think would be worth a look.

Demo golf they seems to get great reviews

Mazda CX5 again good reviews

VF II Sv6 would be nice but streach at $35

New astra turbo again good reviews

I'm thinking with $35 k tops you could look at a new Astra - you would be able to get a 1.6 turbo either RS or maybe RSV

My wife has an suv and so don't particularly want another. Never been a VW fan unless its a gti and then the budget won't stretch that far.
I've driven an astra and it was really nice, however hated the stop/start system, styling isn't really to my liking and when i priced it up against the Elantra SR it was about $8k dearer

Apart from the SV6,
which I don't think you will be able to get to fit into the company budget,
if it were just a "Company Car" with no strings or worries about residual value
I would go for the Hyundai Elantra SR Turbo because I think out of all the cars you suggested it would be the best ride to be in.

Just a company car, they are looking at keeping 3 years and will then go again. The elantra sr gets a lot of good reviews and is packed with every feature i could ever want.

I have also driven an SP25 and whilst it was nice it felt cramped inside and every 2nd person has one

If I was buying the car with my own money I would buy the Mazda SP25
because I like them, long term I think it is a better made car
& going by current / past trends I would expect it to hold much more residual value than a Hyundai.

I have sent a few links to demo sv6 and new sr elantra's to the boss. Will see what they come up with. At the end of the day its a car I'm not paying for so I'm not going to be too fussy. It will free up some money for a new motorbike as i will be selling the old lancer. 😎

I30 SR is just around the corner. Could probably fit an ECU tune in under 35k to.

VF II SV6 should fit in....(assuming your company gets a fleet discount)

the Insignia is a pile of shite, steer away (plus its resale will be close to zero)

you looked at a Kia Optima?

my son-in-law has just got into one (non turbo version).. very nice comfy and eay to drive
loaded with goodies

If the optima gt was within the budget i would definitely consider it. But the 2.4 is getting a bit long in the tooth now and the base model misses out on a lot of goodies.

Work wouldn't come at a Commodore not because of price but because they are ceasing manufacturing in aus at the end of this year.
Ended up with the Elantra Sr. Took delivery today and what a fantastic little car. Feels quicker than expected, very comfortable and has everything you could want in a car.
Given im not paying for it, i am very happy

It shows you the mindset of non motoring enthusiasts towards holden and why they don't sell many Commodores these days.
The longer warranty and cheaper running costs of the hyundai also factored in, however their main reason was after October they wont be making them anymore

Exactly!:yup:

Sounds like the decision was made only from an ill informed, narrow minded "accountants" point of view
but I would actually bet that in 4 or 5 years time if you do the exercise an SV6 with exactly the same condition & kilometers
will retain a fair bit more resale value.

I also don't expect Holden to walk away from any warranty obligations & I am sure spare parts will be available for a few years to come.

Anyway, it's not your investment so I guess you have to roll with it.

The Hyundai will be a good car & you don't have to pay for it so just enjoy driving it!

So True - ACCOUNTANTS - This is why the manufacturing world is STUFFED.

Cents cheaper OS, but then it's NOT in the end when you factor in long leadtimes, poor erratic quality and unexpected delays.
Suddenly it wasn't so bad as thought making things in Australia - but oops all the expensive plant machinery has been sold at scrap prices to the Chinese and
it's hard to get it back.

American Accountants started it and look how well that worked out for the USA and it's middle class ...? Surviving on one time use Chinese rubbish from Walmart
and food that will kill your pets... eeeeek.

Your budget should stretch to SV6 demo.

Another suggestion is FG XR6 demo.

Yeah of course happy to.
So far really happy with the car. Handles and goes better than expected. Ride is a good compromise of being sporty but not too firm. Interior is a really nice place to be, seats very comfy and i love the steering wheel, there are no rattles and its all put together really well.
Only negatives so far and this is being picky.
I think some plastics will mark easily especially with my toddler in the car.
Occasionally at slower speeds the DSG gets caught out. This is pretty rare though and i think my driving style is adjusting to the car.
I can only have 1 phone connected at once (i run 2 phones due to work) so this is a small annoyance.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170608/23aea858923473fec07daac38fcec93c.jpg

These have come a long way that's for sure. With everyone becoming importers going to seriously look at moving away from Ford & Holden now which is kind of scary but no reason for any loyalty now they are all sales companies for overseas companies. Hyundai is certainly one that have lifted their game.

Guess many country people will be switching brands definitely as their local Holden dealers vanish end of this year 2017.

Rather than starting a new thread i thought i would post in here.

Selling my wife's car privately, first time selling a car privately in about 10 years. Have someone coming to look at it today. You hear lots of stories of cars being stolen from test drives etc.
Car is only worth about $10k and is insured, however i want to do what i can to avoid being caught in that situation.

Common sense tells me to get pictures of drivers licence, go on the test drive with them. Any other tips?

Seriously don't worry about it!
Any car thief would have better taste than to want a Renault Koleos! :doh: :stick: :jester::lmao:

It's not as if it is an irreplaceable classic car on top of the list of the most desirable, popular stolen vehicles list.
You might find that you get some tree hugging, procrastinating weirdo's looking at it but I can't imagine anyone looking to steal a car having any interest in stealing one of those. :nono: :hide:

Whenever I sell a car from home I will not give out my address on a first phone call, (I do not even answer withheld numbers.)
I explain that I am often out & the car is not visible from the street, that I have had people say they are coming & not turned up in the past
so I have spent ages waiting around for people who have never arrived.
I let them know the suburb but that is all.
I give them my name & get theirs, write down their phone number then I will always ring them back to tell them something trivial extra about the car.

I sometimes tell them that I am out at a relative's house not far away & I will give them the address when they ring back telling me they are on their way.

Most genuine people say that they have waited around themselves for people who have phoned up on adverts & broken promises to come over
so they understand my point of view.

By the time they come over to see the car I have spoken to them at least three times on the phone so it is very unusual to get a no show.

If I let them take a car for a drive on their own I keep their driver's license & scan myself a copy (write down the time & date) in case their are any traffic camera problems etc.

Surprised at how quickly it sold and for a price im very happy with. Hopefully wont need too much for the rwc

Now the hunt is on for a new car, luckily we have the option of borrowing a car until we find the right one, so we dont have to rush
