Hi all just got a quick question I'm dropping a manual 3.45 lsd diff into a wm caprice, now will my tail shaft fit the manual diff or will I need a new tail shaft? Any help would be great

No. I put a 3.45 in my A6 SSV ute - straight swap.

Was awesome! Made the car come alive, especially coming off roundabouts. Made SFA difference to fuel consumption either. [emoji106]

Your ride being an A6 would be an idea to research the HSV 3.27 LSD shot peened set, they also bolt straight in no other mods required.
Did this to our old Calais V that had the 2.92 single spinner diff which was :spew:
We only put up with it for 4K till I had to piss it off for the 3.27 :yup:

I remember years ago someone reported on testing every diff from 2.92 to 3.7 at the track on an A6 and concluded HSV got it right in choosing 3.27 for A6 as far as times go. However there are a lot of factors which can affect that such as gear changes occurring just before or just after the line, so it's far from conclusive.
Problem is Mick, 3.27s are much rarer than 3.45s and being HSV command a premium. My 3.45 was bought from a fellow forum member with very low kms on it and did 85,000+km in my ute without a problem. From memory Chev put good Martini diff oil in when he did the swap.
IMO 3.27 or 3.45 both a huge improvement on 2.92.

As the others have said, you will love the 3.45's :driving:

Re gears: depends what you want. I found that the 3.27:1 woke the car and yet made negligeable difference in the fuel consumption, also if you do a bit of highway driving you will find the 3.27 a nicer choice.
