Hey guys,
It's time to change the engine mounts on my VY SS so I'm wondering if I try the MACE OEM replacement ones ($135/pr) or just stick to the genuine ones ($330/pr). I read some previous posts where people have used the MACE unbreakable ones but I'm hoping for a similar feel to what the genuine ones gave me. Has anyone used these MACE engine mounts before? Here's the link

Thanks guys

Id go oem, guaranteed to get 90-100K out of them & not too harsh either! Not necessarily pay GM's price though any aftermarket Std mounts are ok.

Thanks for the reply Mick. Yeah I agree. I got 80K out of my original units so I think I'll go genuine....As I always regret it when I don't

You won't get the 100% "Same Feel" as the OEM rubber mounts, when using aftermarket mounts, not going to happen...

The choice is yours... replace Both Sides with Brand New OEM rubber engine mounts, and see how long they last. (For me 60000 Kms)

Or go aftermarket, no more broken mounts... but there will be an increase in NVH to some degree, depending on which brand you buy...

From all my research, The Mace Unbrakeable mounts, has the largest rubber bush, than any other aftermarket mount, so will have the least harshness compared to the rest using smaller / harder bushes...

I have these mounts in my daily, and I'm totally happy, there is slightly more NVH yes, but I hardly notice it IMO... and it doesn't annoy me, I can cruise on the fwy no problem...

That's my 2 cents...

That's some good info, thanks bud. Although my car just clicked over 78500kms and these days I'm lucky to do 50km per fortnight so I'll most likely still go the OEM replacement route...although you have given me something to think about :)

And sorry silly question...do the genuine engine mounts have fluid inside them or are they just solid rubber?

Yes the OEM mounts have fluid inside them from memory, and when they split/tear it leaks out.

I couldn't work out for a while, why my L/H header, and the sub frame below it had rusty water stains on them (only the L/H side).

When I replaced the mounts, It was clear the L/H mount had filled up with water over time, and squirted rusty water everywhere...

The mount had completely torn in half, but was still retained by the fail safe design, and could still move about 10mm in and out...

Sorry guys, just a thought. Are the factory OEM engine mounts still robust enough to use with a modified engine (cam, head work 292rwkw)? Would I still expect 60,000kms plus out of them? Or should I use a factory rubber mount on one side and a MACE unbreakable mount on the other side? Also note & I'm not sure if it matters with this subject but my car is also quite low (properly lowered though...Bilsteins, Kings, Whiteline etc etc)

Following on from this, do the VF GTSR mounts for the LSA suit VT-VZ? Surely they could handle an atmo LS1-LS3 and still have pretty good NVH. The aftermarket mounts were put in my Monaro with the LS3, so maybe going back to OEM might improve things.

Cheers, Matthew

OEM is fine for that power.

Doing yourself or Sonny doing them for you?

I'm just getting my local mechanic (well he's actually a good mate) to install them. He's actually worked on my car quite a bit the last 5 years (cam/head work/ Harrop brakes etc)
