Some time ago I spoke of water getting into my car via the rear LHS window. As the car may not move for weeks these days, the problem developed into mould which I have treated, but months on and with the car siting idle, I just cant get the stink out of the car. I think the only alternative is to replace the rear carpet. I am aware the rear is separate to the from which is good. But how big a job is it? Any traps or pitfalls and also who is the best to supply new carpet?

Thanks in advance.

As I believe the carpet in a Commodore is 100% synthetic.
Unless it has somehow gone rotten right through the under felt which I really doubt
I honestly think you should be able to wet vac the carpet clean & remove any smells.

(Have been in the trade many years & own a Karcher machine that would do the job, pity you are so far away.)

If the carpet is in fact rotten right through & can't be cleaned & deodorized,
I would buy a second hand genuine carpet from the wreckers
as carpets tends to fade from the sun,
new genuine might cost a fortune & will not be faded the same as yours,
aftermarket carpets always look aftermarket & they never seem to fit correctly.

EDIT:

Another idea would be to remove the rear section of the carpet from your car
& scrub the heck out of it with cleaner & disinfectant, give it a good hose off to rinse
& then when it is dry replace it.

Never done a VE, Sled are you sure the carpets in two piece in the Wags? Perhaps in the Cargo area yes?

from memory (having had 3 VE SSv wagons).. the carpets have no join, it is one piece
and I just checked the VF Tourer, it is the same... one piece

the rear cargo area carpet is separate

Speaking of water in the car, apparently some VF's have the same problem as the older VE's had. There's a bulletin out for water ingress to the cabin, apparently due to fitting the dash poorly at the factory (it was described to me as when the dash assembly is inserted into the firewall it can dislodge some seals if not aligned properly). I'm unsure of what builds are affected, but they're checking them as they come in for service.
