Hi all - 2010 Sv6 3.6l Series 1 has logged a P0008. Holden have told me I need to spend $2800 on timing chain replacement.
Serviced by Holden since new - I am third owner, 124,000 on the clock.

The car is running fine, nothing untoward noticed apart from the engine light. Before I purchased I found a lot of timing chain issues with the older SV6's, but not the SIDI ones. Only had the car for a few months so a bit stunned at the moment.

Should I be insisting that Holden inspects sensors and the like, or is a P0008 a death sentence for the timing chain (and my wallet)? They have already verified that it has the latest software on board.

If you have a Series 1 it wouldn't be SIDI would it? Find out when the software was flashed, could have been chucked on to get you out the door.

Did you buy it from a dealer, if so you'd have a 3 month statutory warranty yeah? Other than that, I have heard of successful partial claims as its a known design fault.

Thank you.

It's booked in on Monday. The mechanic said even the later SIDI's stretch the chains, and that Holden should address it, but Holden don't want to know. They have their heads in the sand on this one. I have read that some get help from Holden for this issue, but most don't.

I think you'd struggle to get them to address an issue on an old model that they're no longer producing.

You're going to have a hard time finding someone to complain to now there is no such thing as a Holden.
