https://image.ibb.co/neQ8sz/images.jpg (https://imgbb.com/)I've just bought an electric Shu-Roo
It comes with a couple of metal brackets that look like they screw in under the number plate holes
the unit itself is the same width as the number plate
is the bumper plastic strong enough to hold another 800grams on 4 long self tappers?
can I safely drill into the metal structures under the bumper?
does anyone have a picture of whats under the bumper, metal-wise?

I assumed there was already something like this behind the plastic bumper

Yeah, well there is - I got under and had a look. The steel bar is a few inches behind the bumper with some enclosed plastic compartments in places between the two. The bumper extends below the bar by about 4 inches so I can anchor the Shu Roo straps to the plastic bottom of the bumper with speed nuts and screw the top through the number plate holes which don’t go right through / allow access because of the compartments. Should do

Not going to fit it. It would be too messy - and would be the forwardmost piece of the car (by a fair bit) - so I’d probly smash it in the first car park I went into. Also, the plastic bumper just doesn’t seem up to the job and I don’t trust self tappers in plastic (I’m trying to tighten up rear mud flaps now - what a pain!)

I have known a couple of people who used these things & reckon they work just as well,
they just sit on with double sided tape.

(Read some of the "product ratings" in the listing )

Yeah, hey if they fall off or don't work it's not exactly a life ruining financial disaster. :lmao:

we (me and Mrs Interstateman) leave next Monday for Belford NSW. I have decided to have another go at fitting this (basically I cant sell the thing, so I may as well fit it)

It needs to be powered from an "accessories" power source (one that dips when the engine starts)

the manual suggests the back of the cigarette lighter, but Im not fitting this as a permanent thing, and I don't want to run wires into the cab if I can avoid it (only as I am lazy and I want to do this the easiest way possible)

back in the old days, I would have taken power off the auxillary point on starter motor for stuff like this (like on my 1966 mini or my VWs)

is that still do-able these days? Alternatively, is there a fuse or junction box under the hood that would be a suitable take-off point for this do you think?

Sold it in the end. Got 350 for it, so only lost 130 in the process. It wasn’t going to fit well, and partly because I don’t trust that plastic bumper. I’d like to see how people mount spotlights on there. Mounted the old whistles back on. We leave tomorrow morning 6am -aiming for Balladonia first night (from Bridgetown WA)
