That is true for Toyota UK, but in Australia Toyota controls the lot, if they subcontract to Inchcape they still have control.
The situation with Holden they would hand over the complete importation, distribution of new vehicles, spares and support. Keeping only R&D for GM for products not even sold in Australia and this would be absolutely separate from the "Holden" brand and bussiness. So yes it is very different and a big deal especially for current back office workers soon to be out of work and for legacy products and their support if legal spares and support is honoured.
Interesting times indeed.

I can't see this doing anything positive for the Holden brand , but am guessing it's not meant to.

To me it seems like a get out of jail free card for GM to close down Holden. GM then wouldn't be responsible for service and parts for the next 10 years and would save a considerable amount of money.

This is exactly what worries me the most, the newest Holden I have is a Volt, with a plugin EV you are basically married financial till one of you dies. As I don't put much km on the local run about, I am both worried about GM honouring the 8 year Voltec warranty and then past warranty. It could well be the most expensive paper weight on 4 wheels if I don't get some great years out of it.
Never expected what is happening now, but should have known better of GM the brand I put some coin in.
Will see.... fingers crossed for the best.
Maybe this will bite me who knows?

There seems to be speculation out there that Holden are likely to drop Commodore and Astra hatch as economics for these aren't good. Perhaps this is where Inchcape speculation also comes in. I'm thinking other models will stay with Holden. From what I've read Astra sedan is already end of production, but Holden have lots of stock, so it'll still be around for a while. Speculation that Holden won't bring in anymore Commodores at all. It was announced last year to temporary suspend Commodore production (I thought this was for a few months, then they'd resume, but on lower numbers than they were previously importing), I don't think there's been any announcement to resume.

The fact the Inchcape are the distributors for PSA brands Peugeot and Citroen is the interesting thing. Opel is now owned by PSA and the next gen Opels are all going to be built on PSA platforms, essentially Opel/Vauxhall will be PSA's cheapo brand. So you could see the attraction for Inchcape to import Opels badged as Holdens along side the more expensive Peugeots and Citroens with a lot of parts and service commonality.
The Astra Sedan is gone as the factory that produces it in South Korea is now building SUVs. I can't see Holden stopping the Astra hatch as that comes from Opel and Vauxhall still sells heaps of RHD Astra hatchs. As for the Commodore, if there is still a market for RHD Vauxhall Insignias then knocking out a few extra Commodores isn't such a drama if Holden want them again when the excess has been cleared. I have read that PSA stiffed Holden on price to supply COmmodores so that probably means no more unless the Inchcape deal goes through.
Cheers, Matthew

Wow. How boring.
One of the dullest looking cars on the road today.
Hopefully they retire the Commodore name for the next realease, if there is one

Ditto. I could semi-tolerate him a few years ago, but he acts like a total wanker these days so I can't stand to listen to him.
