Has anyone had experience with the Nitto NT05? Looking to put them on my Calais. They seem to get good reviews regarding grip in the dry, but are they noisy? I am currently
running Federal 595RSRR and whilst they have decent grip they are a bit annoying noise wise. Interested in peoples experience and constructive feedback on these tyres and also
other 20 inch tyres to fit staggered 20 inch rims.

Cheers

My favourite tyre, great grip, side walls and price.

They get noisy as they wear down. Pretty good from new.

Thanks mate. Also looking at Kuhmo KU39 and Falken FK510 neither of which would offer the same levels of grip as the Nitto I assume. I am currently running Federal 595RSRR on my 19's and whilst quite noisy are a fantastic tyre for the price, but don't come in 20's.

Rod been running the Kumhos KU39 on my Crewman 18", wear & grip is excellent. When I fitted the staggered 19" to my SSV went with them on the rears also.

Thanks Mick, I would really like to go back to a normal street tyre purely to eliminate the howling that comes from the semi slick tyres (really annoying on family trips). When the blower went on I had Falken FK453 on the rear and let's just say they were not even close to being up to the task. Would the 39's have more grip than the FK453's?

Rod I use to run Falken many years ago but can't comment on 453's. Yes tyre/road noise can be an issue! The Kumho's are louder than the oem Bridgestones I had on the SSV.

I ran Kumhos (think they were the old KU31s?) on both my SSVs but of course can't really comment on handling as never drive hard except very occasionally in a straight line. They wore quite well but did get noisy once they got under about half tread.

I currently have KU39's on the rear of my VF2 Redline ute. They are good for the price but not in the same league as NT05 in terms of construction or grip.

I have RE003's on the front, they seem a little softer in sidewall than the NT05, probably similar grip. Overpriced. Hopefully they don't do what the RE050's do (lose their grip at 50% wear).

The Falkens are rubbish. I bought some a few years ago, terrible grip, weak sidewalls, and they chunked.......KU39's are far superior and cheaper.

Next time I need tyres I will look a little harder to track down some NT05.

I've run Kumho KU36's semi slick in the past, now running Kumho V720's semi slicks which are the new redesign replacement of the KU36's.

KU36's were treadwear rating 180, the new V720's are treadwear rating 200, so should last a little bit longer.

Awesome grip 100%, only down side being their a little bit on the noisy side and obviously wear out faster being a semi.

My rear's wear twice as fast as my fronts, so I just keep and eye on them and rotate them ( front to rear / rear to front ) once the rears are half worn down, and 100% maximize tyre life.

It's nice having the same size tyres front and rear for this reason.

I run them on my daily VZSS 6.0L ute, never had any problems running them in the rain.

The most important point I've found when buying tyres is, do a ring around of a few shops, as the prices are all over the place for exactly the same model / size tyre your after.

Last time round for me, there was like over a $100 + difference per tyre...... from the most expensive to the least expensive quote over the phone. It pays to ring around for sure...

Unfortunately Kumho V720's aren't available in 20's just checked...

I have RE003s all round on two of our other cars, but nearly fell off my chair when quoted for the 275 rears. They are a good tyre though.

Finally got my Nitto's delivered from St George tyres. Did not realise though that they are quite a wide tyre (wider than the equivalent Federal). So long story short the rears are scrubbing like crazy. I have messaged Adelaide Guard Rolling on Facebook, and hopefully they can come out to my house and roll the guards. Never had a facebook account in my life, but only way to contact these guys was through facebook, is that normal these days?

Many companies advertise on fb Rod though surely you can ring them? I generally google them even if they have fb page you can normally see their contact details without logging onto fb.

Thanks Mick, got a reply from SA Guard rollers, so going to book with him.

Andrew from SA Quality Guard Rolling was an absolute legend and a really nice bloke as well. Came too my house and did both sides to perfection, cannot thank him enough, and would have paid a lot more than he charged. Now I can drive it again thankfully. I have also today replaced the chrome nuts with satin black.

ps... I might have a set of freshly painted staggered HSV R8 Anniversary rims for sale with near new Federal RSRR Tyres for the right price. Not 100 sure if I want to sell them, but I may let them go if I get what I am after.

Thanks Ed, appreciate it. When I first saw the wheels I had mixed feeling's. Then my wife said they look great, and a few others since have said they love them, so they are staying lol.

PS...What is that in your avatar? Please explain....Yours?

Okay,

it's a cammed LS1 with a Harrop (black series) HTV2300 on top, (built automatic transmission)

it makes 388.5rwkw & 903nm (on a Mainline) & only weighs 1650kg. :driving:

(I have done all the work on it myself apart from the tuning.)

Thanks Ed, sounds killer. I knew you must have had something in hiding, just never thought to ask, or thought maybe you just liked to keep it private. I would love to see a thread on it, and I reckon most on here would back me on that?

Yeah Rod, I like to keep under the radar a little,

I have had it many years & I don't use it as a daily.

So easy to put them away and drive something vanilla on a daily basis. The Calais spent most of the winter in hiding, but I am determined to get it out now the weather in better. No point it keeping it nice for someone else to enjoy. And on another positive note, the boys in blue do not seem to have anywhere near the interest in picking on nicely modded cars that they did when I first came back to SA 10 years ago.

I have one of the last V8 Fairlanes with injected LPG dual fuel which is very comfortable & cheap to run.

It's got good towing capacity & it's a great daily.

Andrew that rolled my guards rocked up in what I think was an NF Fairlane (not 100 percent sure). The boot was bloody massive.

Mick, I ordered Black Simmons, and when they arrived I opened them up to find that they were Hyper Grey. I was furious to tell you the truth. Then my wife came home from work, took a look at one of the wheels and said they are going to look far better on your car than the black would. She thought the whole time that black was not good for my car, but too nice to say anything lol. So glad she was there to see them before I got them sent back. They are a very dark grey in real life :)

If anyone is interested, I just listed my VE Clubby staggered Rims on Ebay. They have been recently resprayed by Extensive wheels in Adelaide and have near new Federal 595RSRR tyres on them. If you search Clubsport Alloy wheels they are easy to find and located in Adelaide.

Rod If I buy any more wheels here I'll be in serious trouble with the Boss :teach: You won't have any trouble selling them.

This car only does about 1500-2000km per year, but if they do will post on here :). I have a mate at work who has them on his MR2 and said no probs during winter.

My ute was 10 in March and has less than 50k on it so mot many more km.
Actually their weight rating may be an issue for me
