Has anyone utilised J-Pipes on here that would care to comment on them. Do they work and do they sound ok? I am running a full Magnaflow twin 3 inch and the drone is absolutely excruciating. I thought I could put up with it, but even though the car doesn't get used much it is wearing thin. The actual note of the exhaust is pretty good, and gets a lot of positive comments, but unfortunately inside the car is a different story. It is either try these or maybe some mufflers from a different exhaust manufacturer ie Diffillippo, or Manta? Not worried about how loud they are either, loud is ok ;)

Rod have no experience with them, have noticed plenty of people trying to offload them though!
Have a look at this thread: http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?154707-Anti-drone-pipes-(j-pipes)
Good luck with it :)

Thanks Mick. I had a bit of a search for those Sureflo drone eliminators and could not find them. I might contact Sureflo and see if they still make them. Not sure how much work is involved in installing them, or if they are part of any existing Sureflo exhaust setup?

I have no direct experience of J-pipes but I doubt they'll help with drone. I had Magnaflow mufflers on my first KPM 3" catback only and the drone was unbearable but they were kind enough to do me a great deal on one of their full 3" systems with Junbl mufflers - virtually zero drone. To get the resonance right I believe they have to be made to match the rest of the system, though may be wrong.
I made J Pipes for my old VE, I retained the rear mufflers and attached the pipe in front of the muffler so it did a loop above it, very tight as there wasn't much space there to get the length right but I managed it ok. My system was a custom made centre section with a Magnaflow front muffler, the rears mufflers were on the car when I bought it so I don't know what brand they were but they looked like X-Force. Did the J pipes eliminate the drone? No, but it did reduce it a huge amount, prior to installing the J pipes I had gone back to running stock rear mufflers on it as the drone was unbearable. It didn't noticeably chance the note of the car as they only work at a specific frequency, getting the length correct is critical as that determines at what frequency and hence what engine RPM they work at. Search helmholtz chamber for a more detailed description and how to calculate the length.

Thanks mate, sounds like a lot of messing around for minimal reward. Can I ask what the car sounded like with stock rear mufflers? Whilst not ideal, I have considered getting a pair of them and having some decent sized tips welded on. I know they are fairly quiet, but is the note terrible? There are also two different types of stock muffler, the AFM ones with single exit into twin tip and the non AFM with twin exit pipes.
Mine was a lot quieter with the stock rears and didn't sound that great, I had the older style 2 outlet ones. I think how it sound would depend on a lot of factors, best to just grab a pair and put them on and see how it sounds, you should be able to pick up a pair of rears for less than $50 off gumtree. Depending on what system you have they may bolt straight up, I know my stock rears bolt up to the Difillipo 3 inch system I have in my ute now, I put the stock ones on every year for rego, take me about 15mins to change them out.
I'm my case it was worth the effort as the car was my wifes daily and the drone was unbareable, its sounded and looked better with straight through rears back on it, although they didn't hinder it at all on the drag strip, ran the same MPH with both sets of mufflers so at 414rwhp the stock rear mufflers were not a restriction.

Thanks mate. I did put some AFM rears back on mine when it was bolt on and remember it being pretty quiet. Might be worth just grabbing a pair and trying them like you say :)

Hey Rod, I had J Pipes on the VE Tourer .. twin 3" - they are REALLY good at cutting the drone inside the car - we used to do 1500+ km trips with kids, dogs and not a single headache (except for the noise of the kids :) ) ... mine were from Sureflo Exhausts.
