Hi All,
I am currently building a VX SS into a track day car.
I am installing a L98 into the VX.
There is 2 thermo fans behind the radiator.
Do I need both of these fans or is the smaller fan used for the A/C?
I have removed the A/C compressor from the engine as I don't need it anymore.
Just trying to save every kg I can.
Thanks in advance.

If it's track work the fans will only power up when idling, a large single should be ok.

Yes you need both as they work together on low and high speed and I would be checking that they work on both speeds as you are going to need them. The ONLY fans that I have had work are the ones you have, even big SPAL fans were no good. I have been tracking my VT for many years.

Or investigate a rad with more capacity eg more fins per inch for greater efficiency. :)

I believe they both kick on at different temp points. I would keep both, set them up in the tune to come on in stages. Don’t try and reinvent the wheel, the stock set up should be fine, no need to go and out lay more money for custom core radiators or delete a fan to save on weight. The 1kg would be negiable verses one larger fan that will not draw air over as much of the core as two and would potentially draw more amps thus robbing power. Ie. I would argue that you will not pick up any more time changing out to one fan v two.

Yeah I hear you Mick, greater efficiency yes but greater capacity alone doesn't always give a better result. Some manufacturers claims don't always give real world results and this has cost me a few dollars.
To the OP VT/VX fans are good but the motors can burn out the high or low speed circuit within the motor as they have 2 12v circuits within them hence the 4 wires. You can buy new motors for around $200 each if you google the part number on them, there is also a thread in here somewhere with a wiring explanation for the wire colours if needed.

The rad alone is the only part of the system that removes heat & considered a heatexchanger, if the engine is on full noise most of the time no matter what you do will keep it cool, especially so in high ambient temps.

Thanks for your replies guys.
I will just stick with both of the fans to be safe.
Don't want to cook the engine.
I've been advised to get a PWR radiator but I cant afford that right now.
I've had my VF SS daily driver on the track heaps of times without an issue with the standard radiator etc.
Hopefully get the same with the VX.
