Well, it certainly is for me anyway,......its "Bathurst Weekend".
I've been watching the "Great Race" since it's been on TV,...67/68? (can't remember which the first televised year was!) firstly via FTA, but lately via the excellent Foxtel coverage which I think is excellent.
Foxtel this year has a 4 day coverage starting tomorrow (Thursday) at 7.15am, so it's going to be a great 4 days for me. Foxtel have been operating Ch 506 as their "Bathurst Channel" all week, but I've only watched a couple of "specials"!
Lots of people rubbish Foxtel, but I think it's very good,...because one gets not only the actual race, but interviews/info/images of what's happening in the garages from, this year anyway, Thursday onwards. I find these interviews/info very interesting, particularly after practice sessions/incidents etc, & this certainly adds to my understanding as to where the teams are when they line up on Sunday morning.
The telecast is certainly much better than some early efforts, I remember that Ch 7 would "interrupt" the Bathurst telecast for 1/2 an hour of "World Of Sport" with Ron Casey & Co,...1/2 an hour?...yeah right,....it was nearly 3 hrs one year,...missed out on the whole aspect of the race changing!
I've driven around the Circuit, in both directions, several times, but I've never been to the Race. I do accept for some, there's nothing like being there & I agree, but that's a little impractical for me.
Then of course, there's my "Bathurst Breakfast", which I usually have on Sunday Morning prior to the Race.
Anyway, it's all looking good for a great weekend, a bit of rain maybe tomorrow, but after that it looks ok.
Plenty of people could win, I'd like to see SVG, but particularly his co-driver Richie Stanaway holding the Peter Brock Trophy.
Hope you all enjoy it.

I have a quandary this year with a trifecta in place.

The WA Open Golf tournament is playing up at Joondalup and I have a mate hopefully playing for the title.
Obviously Bathurst will be on so I’ll at least get to see the start and hopefully the end.
It’s also my birthday so there will be a crowd coming over to celebrate.

Yeah Smitty, a possible storm & rain were possible yesterday, thankfully the weather looks better today, & if the forecast is correct we should have a good weekend. Some drivers, & spectators are ok with the rain, but not me.

press release from FORD today lunchtime, just throwing this up

At Ford Motor Company, we are deeply committed to supporting our teams and drivers in their pursuit of excellence on the track. We understand that motorsport is not only a reflection of our brand and our products, but also an important platform for showcasing the talent and dedication of our racing partners.

We are therefore deeply disappointed by the ongoing lack of technical parity in the Supercars Championship, which has left Ford and its teams at a significant disadvantage throughout the 2023 season.

This lack of technical parity has had a tangible impact on the performance of our teams and drivers. Despite their skill, experience, and hard work, they have struggled to compete with other cars that have a clear advantage. This has not only been frustrating for our racing partners, but also for our loyal fans and supporters who expect to see Ford on the podium and in contention for championships.

Despite the best efforts of Ford, Homologation Team Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) and engine supplier Herrod Performance Engines to work with all stakeholders to ensure a level playing field, a lack of movement by the series organiser has restricted our ability to compete on an equal footing.

Ford has long been requesting data transparency to assist in understanding the disparity that exists between the two cars. Unfortunately, this has been rejected on multiple occasions.

The latest parity review was initiated when Supercars computational fluid dynamics (CFD) partner D2H Group provided aerodynamic data of both cars to the homologation teams on August 24. This data clearly demonstrated that aerodynamic parity had not been achieved.

Since that time, Ford and DJR have engaged with Supercars in good faith to create an aerodynamic update package that would bring the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro Gen3 Supercars closer to aerodynamic parity.

Unfortunately, on the eve of the Bathurst 1000, the Supercars Board has refused to allow the changes which would bring the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro closer to technical parity.

We want to be clear that this is not a reflection of the quality of our cars or our racing programs. We are confident in the strength and capabilities of our vehicles and our teams. We know that they have the talent and determination to succeed in any competitive environment, as evidenced by their incredible histories in this sport.

I enjoyed this Bathurst immensely, 4 days of perfect weather, a good crowd, & an excellent coverage for me via Foxtel. Karen kept me fed & lubricated all day!
In terms of my original post, I was very happy with SVG & Richie taking the win, & I wish them both well in their future careers, particularly Richie with his new home at Grove Racing.

I’d say it was also Svg’s best burnout of his career.
I especially enjoyed the two giant blats of the throttle before finally shutting it off.

Yes, I saw the rear guard area post race & it was pretty much destroyed!
