Hi

Was wondering if LS1.com.au was a CAMS Affiliated Club?

I am thinking about getting a 2S Cams Lisence.

I want to try some twisty stuff :driving:

Do I just need to fill in one of these, or is there driver taining as well?

http://www.cams.com.au/downloads/competitors/2003/Level2.pdf

Thanks
Eric

You need to join an affiliated club and www.ls1.com.au isn't one. Go to the Cams website and choose the club that best suits your needs. They are all in different areas and have different events. I am personnally a member of the HSCCV.

Excellent Grassy, thanks for your help.

Any Tips for the minimum amount of Mods required for the track?

eg. Power steering coller? Better Brake Pads.

The main mod to have is a steering cooler as the stock resevoir gets too hot and melts

Arrrh that's what I meant not a coller

Will stock brake pads be shot after a track day?

Also but some better pads (RB74 min) and a higher grade brake fluid plus an extinguisher and secondary bonnet restraint under the bonnet

After that look at a harness as the next logical step

After going to the Island yesterday, I loved the HQ racing.

Wish I had room at home to store one

High speed tracks such as Sandown and Philip Island are very hard on Brake Rotors and Brake Ducting is a very good idea. Correct pads can also help and the thread on brakes posted not long ago was very informative in that area. Suspension would be the best next step as you would be surprised as to how sloppy the stock suspension really is.

Yeah I have done the suspension.

I am reading up on this site.

Very tempting!

to actually get on the track you need that
s2 licence,
cams club membership ( a bunch are members of the holden sporting car club victoria HSCCV, i am to),
900gm fire extingisher,
secondary bonnet tie down ( ls1 er use rope or belts) (tho there are some realy nifty one that require one bolt on the front quarter to come out, then bolt a clip in (very easy - but hard to explain))
no stuff floating around in the car

& away you go

once you done one you know exactly what u need to do to your car, brakes, ducting etc :driving:

Thanks guys

When joining HSCCV the form has a "introduced by" section.

Do I need to be introduced?

What about the monthly meetings, are you required to attend?

I have been told about a track day at Winton in Jan. Is this the type of event that requires a S2 Cams?

Thanks for your help

Eric

1. No Intro needed
2. No need to attend meetings.
3. Track day in Jan is a S2 CAMS sprint day, yes. :driving:

as already stated, DO NOT do a track day without a PS cooler, and upgraded brakes.

Sandown or the Island will leave you with no brakes after one lap if you are on standard brakes and have decent mumbo

Ok, what would be the cost of PS cooler?

Brakes, would you get away with better pads or are rotors a must?

Not 100% yet.

My Cousin thinks they test on a Fri and you dont need a Cams lic for this day at Winton. Not sure about that though.

you'll get away with standard discs, as long as they've got plenty of meat left on them. IMHO pads and fluid are a must however.

Also, don't forget to up your tyre pressures. Opinions vary on this subject, with people running anything from 36 - 50psi on street tyres when they track their LS1's

Cool, that doesn't make it too expensive to start.

When are you guys hitting the track next?

I'd like to come along for a look :D

Here I go dragging up another old thread, but do you know where I can find the nifty bonnett restraint you mentioned? I don't like the idea of using a rope on my nice shiny duco! Or is it somehow restrained from under the bonnet?
