View Full Version : Edit Question for Sam

Hi Sam,

I was just wondering if you can answer some questions for me (either here or PM).

I am considering an edit in the near future and have obviously heard great things about your work. But I would like to know a little of the following:-

With Edit, shift points and speeds can be modified, can this be done separately in both Power and Economy modes?

Can the rev limiter be changed in either Power or Economy mode?
(beleive it or not, I would be keen on having the rev limit lowered in economy mode as I don't see the need for the car to rev to 6k in this mode. But I guess this is just done by changing shift points????)

Can the idle speed be increased? I am having idling issues (please see this thread for details: http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20329) This is the main thing I really want fixed with my car as it gives me the greatest day to day grief.

What is the cost of a MAF tune and is this done on the dyno, street, or both?

Any information would be very much appreciated

Cheers

Steve

Surely they could have answered your questions whilst you were there.

Since Sam is closed maybe Delphi or Zak could answer this one on here. I for one would be interested in the answer guys.

Darren,

I have read the battle in the Dick's Electronics forum and I don't wish to be bought into it thank you very much.

You seem like a great asset to this forum but please don't use me for your little digs at other people. If I've misunderstood what you're saying then I publicly apologise, but from the way I see it, at this stage, Delphi isn't using Edit and also told me I would need a new computer to have his tune done being that mine is a VTII(?!?!) Since that is not an option cost wise, and Sam seems to be THE guy to see, I am asking for his help, as I am keen to research all avenues of improvement before going ahead.

After all, just by visiting someone it doesn't mean I'm picking teams for life does it? You yourself say that you're trying to acquire all information so newer people don't make mistakes in modifying their cars, and thats also what I'm trying to prevent.

I hope I've got what you said all wrong

Cheers

Steve

Just seemed like a baited question which do seem to come from some camps like the last thread that had 6000 reads as well as my old mate Nambla who has seemed to disappear. I often see people on here that claim to know little, then all of a sudden they make one visit to a tuner and ask a very in depth edit question on the forum just to start a flame fest. I must admit that is what I thought you were doing. If I am wrong, sorry but after reading your post in the other thread I have quoted above it did seem similar to some previous posts by other people.

Had you of said" I asked at sureflow and Dick advised I will need a new computer nobody would have said a thing."

Hi Darren,

Very fair call, please see my PM I sent you (which I sent prior to reading your last post funnily enough)

I don't expect you to remember all my posts and understand the types of questions I ask, but it is not uncommon of me to ask such details questions because, well, thats what I want to know, see for instance my original thread to Greg at Sureflo, I gave the poor guy absolute hell with questions.......

Cheers

Oh, the reason why I posted this thread the day after being there was because my wife said "Shouldn't you find out if this edit thingy fixes your other issues before going ahead with the exhaust?"

Smart lady my wife.....

Steve,

Just a thought! You could pop down to Craig’s. There isn’t too much he doesn’t know about these A4’s and the PCM effect. I’d follow your wife’s intuition as you may have to get the spanners out first on this one. Craig’s got all the scanning software, Tech II etc, so Craig's would be my first port of call personally.

Cheers! :)

idle spped can be increased.

trying to remember, shift points can be change to certain speeds in each gear, which relate to RPM in the end. yes they can be changed in either eco or pwr seperatly.

Hi GUys,

Thanks for all the replies.

Plan B, Good point and it's something that was staring me in the face, it's funny how that happens sometimes, I'll jump on Craig's forum and have a look and see if I can get there sometime soon, there could just be more to it than idle issues!

Cheers

Steve

Yes the shift points can be changed and the Econ mode can be maintained under the current - this is exactly what Sam did with my GTO, with power button on it is awesome (I can snap heads back on each gear change if I want to push it), without the power button it handles nice and mild with the gear changes.
