Ok, so who is going to race or just to have a look?

I am working flat out on getting the VP together to get up there to race. I have the new transmission (Transbraked Powerglide) and new converter sitting on the floor ready to go to work when i put the freshened engine in.

As i probably wont get a chance to drive it before leaving melbourne, i am planning on coming up a couple of days earlier and taking it to the test and tune on wednesday the 4th for its shakedown runs.

I need to learn how to drive a transbraked (2spd) car as well as handle another 80 or so Hp.

Engine should be assembled later this week then on the engine dyno at the end of the week/early next week giving me 4 or 5 days to get it in the car and running. The street outside my house may see some practice launches as the car goes on the trailer!

Its gonna be close!

Thanks Criso, Plan B,

And you dont know how much i am hanging to drive the Red thing again!

Seeing as though this will be my first time in Sydney and first time at the Creek, WSID, can you recommend a nearby suburb to look into a caravan park to pitch a tent!?!?

The reason i ask is that today i recieved my entry advice from WSID and they say that there is to be no camping at all and we had planned to stay in the back of the car trailer (enclosed) not only for cheap accomodation, but also security on the cars.

So now i am stuck looking for somewhere to stay at the last minute. At least at Willowbank you can stay in the pits. They even put portable showers there for you!

Thanking you in advance!

Darren

This is all I could find.... theres not a lot close to the creek! Give them a buzz and see how you go.

Alternatively you may be best to stay at one of the members places. I only live ten minutes from the creek and you'd be more than welcome to set up tent at my place if needed. I dont know you though, so that may freak you out a little. LOL.

Thanks for that VPV8! It is a very game offer seeing as though we dont know each other! Most of the VIC moderators can vouch for me though, allthough i wonder what they would really say! :box:

Dont worry about me camping on your lawn, it looks like i have found a place up in Emu Plains which is only 20km from the track, but straight in on the Western Hwy.

All the cabins are booked out, but seeing as though we're using it only as a bed (we're at the track from 7am through to 9 or 10pm each day) we'll pitch a tent and i am happy with that.

Cheers,

Darren

Also check about any structure you are setting up. ( the car sunshade you use). At our meeting last night it was mentioned that no tent pegs could be put into the bitumen. (Dunno if you are not allowed to do it or the bitumen is physically too hard to put pegs into.)
This was from feedback we got from the people who did the walk through of the facilities last week.

It was hard for them to fault the place as they are all genuinely excited about the new track.

I'm coming as a "Drag Racing Virgin"!! :P Best ive seen is some 1/8 mile sprints out here @ Wellington (Bodengora (??) ) airstrip.

Should be a rip snorter event, coming for the sat and sun with my little bro, cant wait to be deafened by the "big guns" :D

Joel

ADV51, thanks for that. I actully read that in the competitor regulations that were sent to me last week with my entry passes etc, etc. From what i am told, Group 1 & 2 will be on the bitumen and Groups 3 & 4 will be on grass somewhere else, so i am tipping i'll be right for hammering into the ground, especially with the rain you guys have had of late! With an expected entry list of around 600, i'd say Super Sedan will be way, way down the back somewhere.

Well, less a set of pushrods the new bullet is assembled. Waiting on a set of 'special' Crow pushrods thats are to be delivered in the morning to suit the new COME 'Solid Roller' cam. Once they're in and adjusted we'll fire it up and tune it on the engine dyno. Hopefully all things going well this time tomorrow night i will either have a tuned engine waiting to be brought home, or i'll still be out in the garage bolting it into the VP.

I'm not going to predict a HP and Torque value, but lets say the cam isnt as big as i hoped, actually with less lift than the hydraulic i had in there, but the duration @ 0.050 is a fair bit, ok a lot more than what the hydraulic was. The new valve springs are HUGE and compression is up over 11:1 to help fire things up.

Getting excitied now i know i am going to have the engine in the car and ready to race at sydney!

Oh yeah, i also fitted a new MOMO Mod78 wheel to the car tonight. Nice nd small and grippy in gloves with the suede cover. I mounted the transbrake switch on the RH side last night to, so as you can imagine i did a few 'practice' launches in the garage tonight off it.

Darren.

Engine spent today (Friday) on the dyno and bar a couple of hickups this morning (broken wire in EFI loom and fuel reg probs) the engine was up and running and screaming in anger.

No firm numbers yet but when i bring it home on tuesday i will post results. Looks and sounds like it will be a strong one that doesnt mind a bit of a rev!

I was just browsing the WSID website and they've put up an accomodation section. Has hotels, motels, and caravan parks, and a hell of a lot more that I couldn't find!

Heres the link....http://www.wsid.com.au/info/Accommodation.pdf

Well the engine is off the dyno and in the car and running. Changes since it was on the dyno include MSD 7AL-2 ignition with MSD HVC coil. This was done as it was noticed at 6800+rpm that the Holden ignition was starting to lose accuracy, so we went to the MSD to ensure that doesnt happen again.

So the car was washed this afternoon ready to be loaded on the trailer to go to sydney on tuesday night. First go on the track will be at the test and tune on wednesday at WSID. Was nervous this morning firing it in the car for the first time and i can tell you i am already nervous at the thought of letting go of the transbrake at 6000rpm for the first time.

Will post results as soon as i arrive home from sydney, unless some of the locals, or my brother decides to post for me while i am up there.

Cheers, and hopefully some of the sydney forumers will call past and say G'day!

TestnTune was scheduled to start at midday running 'til 7pm...

Just got back from the new track!(9:40)
Test 'n Tune supposed to finish at 7PM, still going at 8:50 when I left. Think it was due to shut down at 9PM.Boy, did I get my $10 worth.

I went out today to do a bit of a recce for the coming weekend
What an absolutely fantastic setup they've built. Still a few teething probs but this sets a new standard.
After an initial hour and a half wandering the pits and checking out anything and everything, I spent the day with the crash crew and ambo's at the finish line. This would be the first track I've seen where the spectator vantage points are actually better than that of the crash crew. Still good to be REAL close to the action though!. Andrew Cowin going 4.9? @ 298mph, and I think it was Jay Upton (T/B) broke through 200mph for the first time ?.
All top class machinery, I saw the GMVPSS plate and thought" now where do I know that from?":doh:I'll say G'day next time Everything about that car is just:cool:
A bit of info if you plan to go Sunday...No chance of a gold ticket,(reserved seating) and Fridays and Saturdays are disappearing fast. i paid $80 for a three day Silver pass, which is general entry with pit pass.
What a top day....and this was just a test 'n tune!
Jim.

My little bro and i are coming down for the sat and sun, we need a silver 2 day pass ($65 from memory).. how were they going? (any chance of anyone picking me up one if they get scarce? PM if need be, i'll be forever in your debt!!) Hope to still pick one up @ the gates, i was able to get hold of 1 already of a local mate..

Cant wait, looks tops!

green is probably a bit of an understatement from what went on there today....who forgot to pay the power bill?

didn't see any LS1 in S/Street...anyone see any?

Some great action out there yesterday though - esp considering track temperatures of 60 deg!

And how about Jay Upton on the nitro burning bike a 6.5, then later a 6.4 at "only" 198mph - what'll happen when he puts the power back into it?!

It was funny. Lights off lights on. And take a guess at who got them running. Sidey's old mate Sikls1.

HQ. Was that Kim on the purple bike JD leathers. If so good first pass. Think it was a 7

GMVPSS, it was a real shame to see you get knocked off, right towards the end. You were only a couple of 100ths off your dial in too. You have such a consistent car.

If it makes you feel any better, we had the entire room going for you! :yup:

Cheers! And well done!
