Has anyone come across any details, pics of the new engine Holden teams are using in the V8 Supercars series?
They refer to as a Holden Motorsports Engine or an "Aurora" block, but the only GM Aurora engine I know of was the 4 litre DOHC Oldsmobile V8.
Or is so b****y secret noone should know?

the block is essentially a short deck SBC developed by GM Performance Parts for use in the Indy car.

The Windsor is a short secked block...the Holden teams wanted the extra bonnet room that the short deck enables, plus some other stuff that goes with it internally, so they lobbied to have the short Aurora block allowed plus a new cylinder head that allowed symetrical valve placement the same as the Ford...

GM weren't making the block any longer but put it back into production......

Thanks, so are they using a 4.125" or 4.00" bore?
Presumably the stroke would be 3.00" or less, so I guess this is why they wanted to get the deck height down.
The cylinder heads, are they using the big block style valve layout IEIEIEIE, or are they using the present NASCAR SB2 style head which is IEIEEIEI valve layout?
Here's a good website describing the NASCAR heads

I understand they are using 4.0" bore or there abouts and 3.0" stroke...like I say there abouts. All these V8 Super Car duded have their own secret herbs and spices.......

I understand the head to be the Splayed valve #24502517( or there abouts) which has the IEIEIEIE layout. This allows for cross ram intake manifolds that have the same intake runner shape where as the old 18deg head required the runners to "siamese". This was one of the perceved advantages of the Windsor. Many seem to use CFE or Chapman CNC prepared heads from the US and some have their own in house airflow analising and dyno facilities. Not NASCAR but very impressive for Aust.

But not the SB2 which was primarily designed for carburetor use having ports that continue the angle of bias from a single plenum to the valve head. Interestingly the LS6/LQ4 head has the same from deck to floor exhaust port height as an SB2......That is my understanding anyhow.

It never stops amazing me how many people think they run LS1s and OHC Ford motors:doh: Even guys I know who live for the whole touring car scene went out and bought BA V8s thinking the motor in them was the one that shot the Stones to fame and fortune!! "Dude!! It's a scanky old 1966 Windsor with trick heads!!"

Had the same arguementn the other day with a friend that cant understand why the SV8 Leaves his new GT for dead when Ambroses car flogged everything last year. He still didnt believe me that Ambroses engine is not the same as his one hotted up as he called it.

Holden and ford don't mind the general public not having a clue that they are just body shells of there road going versions.

put the shell on a fwd excel running gear, that will confuse them even more.

I work for Perkins Motorsport and it never siezed to amaze me what questions u would get over a race weekend.

"what do ya do with all the SS interior outs them cars"

"where do ya buy all ya LS1 bits from"

and my favorite....

"do you take the cars to Starr Performance to get em dyno'ed"

Suprising to actually see how little the general public know about the series.

And with the 427 monaros at bathurst that only made it worse...
