I had a play with it last night, it looks as if you vote for peoples reputation if you like their responses. The more votes they get the higher their reputation.
Its reliant on people's feedback but at least it will be an indication of peoples "reputation" :)
And you cant vote for yourself

Next to your post count there is a little green or blue square. The higher the reputation the more squares. You can also see it in your profile. Good way of seeing if a person has 400 posts but a crap reputation.

Right next to the number of posts,
You can add to someones reputation by clicking on the scales in the title bar I suspect...

Yep this is a means of rating users, it relies on a whole bunch of variables to get a good rating, post counts only give 1 rating point per 1000 posts so they contribute nothing really :)
It it all about the users rating other users, this should resolve the issue with the titles, it will be refined as time goes on and some of the titles will change but slowly slowly we get things done :)

Sidey, Is this going to be used for anything (banning etc) or is it just for looks?

I've seen peer ratings work well on other forums, which is why I mentioned it in the "post counts?" thread.
Helps to sort out those who post informative stuff from those that just post for the sake of it, which is why I like it better than purely a post count. No system is perfect however.
Sidewindr - does this update only have "approve/disapprove" as options?

i bet,
you can only use it once before having to call some one else the same thing however.
i think you would like to press it a number of times on a few ppl, or all day long.

Did you try this purely in the name of scientific research? :stick: :D
:idea:Having tried some of this research myself, forum guests can't rate us, but where do non-validated members stand? I would hate to see a lot of user id's created for the sake of bumping up ones own ratings. :nyuk:

Yep it only has the 2 options but reputation is not just based on votes from users there are about 20 different variables.

Great Sidey,
Another way to encourage schoolyard behaviour. "Im dobbing on you!"
Vt2vx has already done it to me! Ta!
What you havent taken into account though is those that will wear their lack of warm fuzzies with pride.
Bring the teach an apple though, and it will all be good eh?
Maybe a 'teachers pet' button...... :spew:

good to see its not anonymous.. The one problem I have with the reputation tags is, is it possible for the same person to continue to give someone a bad rep in different posts, in which case it may be an idea that others can see the reputation detail so they can see that the bad (or good) rep may not be earnt but just a personality conflict....

Where do you see it. Can you see I just gave you a bad rapp for that one  I am only asking as it would be good to see all the people that love me gentle nature and give me warm fuzzy rating.

was testing it it both ways to see how it works.
how can you tell who it was and if its good or bad ?
i have a few there now, all i can see is a reputation was received, and the msg if any typed and what thread it was from. can't tell if good or bad rating or who it was that did it just the thread. still it says from these i have that i still have 0 points. not that i was after any.
this feature doesn't appear to have much of a point.

reputation is not based just on your votes
and its not anonymous we can see everything, and given that if a person asks I think we should let them know how you voted

I just gave you one strife. I have given a few out but they dont change and the only one that can see it is the person that gets it.
My mum must have logged in as I got a thumbs up.
Strife. Imagine the Pm's if people are able to find out who writes what. IE everyone will send an email to mods each time they log in to see who loves or hates them.

cameron, I still don't get it.
I can't see who, or which way vote/s went.
Who can see this, just the mods?
Thread, date, comments, thats all i can see.
should clear things up for me if i can find see which way each vote went. Whats the point if you don't know if its good or bad??
ps have another vote for this thread, beats me which way that was either.

Martin,
If you have a crap reputation your vote does not count as much as someone who has a better rep etc etc. It is out in the open so people are accountable for their votes and nothing is done "behind the back" so to speak.
Sidewindr

It is based on many factors and a rep of 1 does not mean 1 vote. An example is below.
Administrator's Reputation Power - "How many reputation points does an administrator give or take away with each click?
Register Date Factor - For every X number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Post Count Factor - For every X number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Reputation Point Factor - For every X points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Minimum Post Count - How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others?
Minimum Reputation Count - How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others?
Daily Reputation Clicks Limit - How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? Administrators are exempt from this limit.
Reputation User Spread - How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? Administrators are exempt from this limit.

slight change since the colour change.
Have light coloured reps and darker blue reps. my guess is the dark ones are good and the light ones are negative ?
PS nah forget that just ones that have been looked at recently or not.
