I am driving down to Jindabyne this winter, with a detour to Sydney for a few days and I was considering buying a car bra for the trip. But after reading they can rub and leave fine scratches I'm having second thoughts .Has anyone used them, or had one on their car for a few weeks, and if so how'd it go, any scratches or marks ? And are they worth it ?
My Old man used to use the carbra on his 928s he did allot of
trips over many years and i think over 3 different cars.
It didnt leave scrathes and saved allot of chips from the pacific Hwy.
If i was doing some country Ks id get one.

I have used a Car Bra on my CV8 since new, have done several trips to Brisbane and never had an issue with marks, althou I always wash and dry before fitting.
i have only used the ones made my Car Bra Australia!

I've used them on a VS Calais, VS Clubsport and my VX GTS. They were all made by Car Bra Australia and haven't left any scratches. Having said that the bras were all used for interstate trips and the longest they were left on would have been three days. I can't see any reason why you would want to leave a car bra on for three weeks. Saves on stone chips and it's also much easier to clean insect bodies off your car bra than off the front of your car!!!

I have had 3 car bra's myself all from Car Bra Aust I've had know problems what so ever. But Car Bra Aust don't recommend using a car bra on re-painted cars, only use it on factory paint. It's supposed to scuff the paint if the front has been re-sprayed.

There should be no problems as long as you do not leave the car bra on your car for verly long periods of time, such as weeks at a time. As someone else has said and is common sense, if you make sure the serface is clean and you hook it on correctly you should have no worries with scratching or scuff marks. On new cars, the fresh paint needs to breath to harden and can mark due to sweating. I have seen this happen to a car as the owner used one from new and two years later you could see that the paint was slightly marked from where the car bra was. He was not happy to learn that by letting the paint breath regularly, he would have avoided that happening.
To the point, yes for long distant trips, these are great and well worth it as it will save you a lot of $$ saving your font from stone chips etc.

I have had two car bras (VXSS & CV8). They are great for preventing stone chips on long trips but the first did rub the bonnet along the top edge. I put this down to dust accumulating when I stopped for a break on trips. With the new one when I take a break before I get back into the car I lift the bra where it joins the bonnet and wipe my chamios along the join line. You can occassionally see a dust line when doing this. Since doing this on the new wheels I havent had a problem. Well worth having. Both bras have been from Car Bras Australia in Reservoir Vic.

I've had a car bra on my ss ute for 8 months and its been great. I work in the country and drive on a lot of gravel roads and with constant dust It has never sctratched the ute (I do wash the car and the bra weekly tho). If your doing a lot of country k's its invaluable for bugs and chips. Invest!!

I have had 2 car bra's on 2 cars now.
An SV89 until traded in 2000
Got the new one for the VX Clubby
And now the same one fits me new VY R8
I have always used Robco car bra's in Marrickville Sydney.
They line there bra's with a thick lambs wool lining.
Have NEVER had a scratching issue, but always take it off if staying at one place for a few days to let it breathe.
The only issue I've ever had was one trip after a HEAVY rain I got lazy
and lft the bra on over night.
Next morning the sun caused the bra to shrink.
This did cause some marking which I had to polish out.
So if used in the rain take it off when you arrive at your desto.
They look ugly but if you drive country k's Are well worth it.
Even found a paint shop to paint on a lovely HSV monica.
Cheers jono.

My front end looks crappy(already) after doing highway work and following a mates car too closely, wish I bought a bra for it straight up !!!
Anyway, gonna get me one after me front end gets bad enough for a respray.
My question is: What is the best way to clean these car bras (liner side)??

I just use a scrubbing brush with soapy water. Does the job, but I dont try too hard cause it just gets shitty again straight away anyway!

Have a look out for a product by 3M which is a clear protective vinyl which comes in kit from to suit many new vehicles including HSV. It is basically like a car bra and can be removed easily with a heat gun or hair dryer. I am having it fitted to my car and will let you know how it goes.

When I get the ss or Monaro soon, I am thinking about getting this done, Is it easy to take off once you have put it on wouldnt it leave sticky residue on it ??
What about prices do you know ??

Apparently it is easy to take off. If it did leave a little bit of residue you could just use some prepsol to clean it off.
I am not sure about the price as I am getting it as a favour and only have to pay for labour.
I will post up some pics once it is fitted.

So if you have had the front of your car repainted does that mean you shouldn't use a carbra ever, or is there a certain time you should wait before using one? Ive just had my car resprayed, and i wouldnt mind fitting one for long trips, but if its gonna wreck my new paint then i wont worry about it.

I have had car bras on a number of cars, my current car I repainted the bar, and within a month or two have put the bra on, have had no problems, they are well worth the money. Mine is from Car bra Aust. Only use it on long trips though.

Yeah, I was advised by my painter to wait at least
4 weeks before using the car bra, twas a bitch of
a wait and tried not to drive it anywhere for that
period. Have been using it on the new paint for
about 6 months now and the front end looks
just like it did the day it left the painters :)

Car bra is a life saver. I had a prick in a truck wander into the mediam strip in front of me & the next thing i see is a handfull of gravel coming at me. Bra wore the most & two hit the sunroof & left small chips  It even broke through the black vinyl, but didnt mark the car. Have u seen the bra that u can get for your rear view mirrors. Awsome. I drive a lot of dirt & the ava would be trashed without a bra

I had a VS Statesman that had a clear film across the front of the bonnet - assume the same or something similar to the 3M product referred to by GMLS1. It certainly did save the front of the bonnet from some stone damage however when removed there was a clear difference in the duco fade (reubens mica). Took quite a bit of work to get the bonnet looking one color all over. Not recommended.

Hey Black 346,
Do you have it on all the time, I am moving to FNQ and was advised to fit one due to bugs and dust. Go an Adventra LX8 not pristine but VVGC, and was told bugs can be real problem up there.
Cheers.

monster I had 1 on my clubby off & on for 3 years. it was from car bra, never left any marks anywere, the best part when you take it off you have a nice clean front. I have 1 for sale off my father inlaws vu ute with mirror bra's also. only thing dont suit SS because of the driving lights at the bottom, SS types have clear plastic were this 1 has mesh type stuff. but if its only for a trip $ 100 bucks & its yours, can send pictures if you send me your email address, but if you buy a new one, only buy from car bra ok!!!!!!!!!!

No instructions needed, just try to put it on, should take you all of about 1 minute to work it out...
The only park that requires any brain power is having to drill a couple of small holes in the inner gaurds on each side where there is nothing for the hooks to connect to. "you will work that out once you have put it on the 1st time"
Look at the picture below, that should make it simple enough

thumbs up from me, after paying for a respray, waited 4 weeks for the paint to finish curing and no problems, keep everything clean when your applying it and make sure it fits tight.

You will notice a decrease in airflow around the headlight with
VT/VX models due to complete covering of the headlight with
the plastic of the car bra. My vehicle consistantly used up to
2l/100km more fuel on the highway with bra whilst running
mcai. I now have otr, and bra makes no difference at all to
fuel usage or temps.

Carbras are redundant.
www.ozicozi.com.au
I did my VE SSV with this ventureshield, costs not much more than a bra, can only see it close up, and I did all the other areas a bra can't:
- A pillars
- doglegs
- rear bar sides
- rear bar loading lip
- door mirrors
- headlights
- foglights
Been almost three years now and not one stone chip on the car. The added benefit is you have the protection all the time. Including around town. I will never run a car without this. ozicozi in Sydney is at Hotham Pde Artarmon. The only issue is turning up in your Commodore when most of their work is Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins etc.
