Greetings and Salutations.

My name is Rob, and I'm a n00b.

I'm coming from a japcrap background and looking for something a bit different. I'm sure you'll forgive me for being a ricer :D

I'm currently looking at getting myself a new car, and the VX-VY2 (and VU) SS sedan or ute is currently at the top of my list. I don't know much at all about these cars really, but I'm here to learn.

I also like candlit dinners and long walks on the beach.......oops, wrong forum :p

Anyway, a few of you know me from other forums, so I'm sure we'll get a chance to catch up again on here.

That's enough of my waffling for now. Time to abuse the Search function :burnout:

Welcome Art, i see your switching from importing to exporting, well done. :D

Cheers mate.

At the moment I'm actually weighing up options to see what's best for me. I know imports reasonably well and it would be much easier to just buy another turbo 4 and modify the arse off it, because I know what mods produce the best power gains.

I'm coming from a Pulsar GTi-R, and trying to decide between the SS, XR6T, S15 and WRX.

I'm hoping I can find enough info to convince me to go with one of the aussie cars, cause it's about time I tried something different.

G'day and welcome. If you can you should try going out to WSID on the 22nd of this month as you will get a chance to meet some of us and also get to meet some of the guys from the XR6T forums as we are having a friendly meet, greet and drag. :D

Sounds like a plan. I might try to get out there.

G'day Art and welcome. By the time you finish using the search function, I think you'll see why so many of us are happy LS1 owners, and maybe help you make you mind up.

Happy searching

Well once I get over this bloody flu, I'll be taking some test drives and making my decision from there.

Then I just have to decide which mod path I want to take :D

The first mod will have you debating over a MAF or MAFLESS Edit Tune :booty:. Do a search and you soon understand why no-one mods without an Edit :D

Welcome to the Forums BTW

Cheers Ryzz.

I've only ever owned 1 car that had a MAF. And that was removed not that long after I bought it (bigger turbo and aftermarket ecu). I'd probably go for the MAFLESS edit.

Just looking at these GenX2 blower kits. They look like very good value. Things should certainly get interesting :D

Welcome, Art.

I haven't been here long but enjoy surfing the topics and OT's :booty:

Coming from a Pulsar GTi-R. Nice! Pocket Rocket that one! :burnout:

I'm sure from reading these forums you'll make an "informed" :p choice :D

Cheers,
Smerg

Pocket rocket WHEN it's actually going. Definitely not a car I would recommend to anyone as a daily driver.

I think I'm getting seriously swayed towards the SS ute. Just need to find a good suspension package and then start speaking to the lease company.

Post questions on what you want to know about suspension in the tech forums and im sure someone will be able to help. There are a number of guys here into the Utes, i believe someone is also setting up a dedicated Utes forum as well, so keep your eyes out for that one.

Welcome Art.

You've certainly come to the right forum... Get the XR6T!

Only j/k... you obviously came to the right place if it's a V8 you're after.

The XR6T was placed on the list due to the fact that it's pretty much middle ground between my "ricer" roots and the "bogan" direction. Unfortunately the weak gearbox and rods are steering me more and more towards the SS.

I think I'm gonna have lots of questions for the tech section soon :D

Hi Noob!
Glad I'm not in yoru shoes - trying to choose between the sweet simplicity of gen III grunt or the world's best value turbo sedan is a tough call... depends on whether your bogan blood is red or blue :D

Weak rods??? I thought the stock rods were strong enough for 400kW. How much power do you want, Art?

Funnily enough, I've always had more of a Ford bias. But it's almost impossible to find much in the way of aftermarket support in this country for the new V8, and there are those gearbox issues with the XR6T.

Not to mention the ridiculous weight of the BA.

From my research, once you want to go past something like the Nizpro Stage 2 kit, you're looking at new rods. I'm sure it's enough power to keep most people happy in a daily driver, but coming from a turbo background, I know there's always the temptation to wind in a little more boost. Unfortunately with the Barra240T, that extra boost will mean an engine rebuild after not too long.

At any rate, I'll see how I go after I've driven both. Might have to try to find someone with a modified version of each to take me for a spin.

Welcome Art.

You won't regret getting a V8 over a Turbo 4 or 6. As my mate who owns a S14 says "It's like you're always on boost" :D

I've just had my suspension done on my VX SS sedan, though it's very mild compared to what some of the guys on here have done. You'll not go wrong with a set of Bilstein, Koni, KYB struts/shocks and a set of Eibach, Quadrant, Fulcrum, or even King Springs. Add to that your strut brace, adjustable sway bars and you're laughing as you go around corners like you're on rails. :D
