Can anyone help with a mouse problem I am having?
My mouse right key won't function when I click on stuff in the body of an email or forum. It works on the header and footer lines like File, back, address and so on, and in forums which have topics on the left of the page it works in the lft portion, but in the responses portion it just ignores me.
I use it a lot to print as it gives me control over which page to print and printer properties but now it doesn't respond to that. It was working fine until I clicked on one of the infuriating moving monkeys popups in my email I right clicked on it and closed the link, which at least stopped the monkey running around, but a few minutes later it stopped responding. I run W98 with IE5.5, I have reinstalled the mouse, changed the mouse for a new one, reinstalled windows about 3 times, reinstalled IE5.5 2 or 3 times, no improvement. I have not uninstalled these programs as i didn't want to lose the Programs and favourites etc and my CD burner is U/S so I can't save them, should I bite the bullet and uninstall everything, or is there something I can do in Regedit or Sysedit etc to cure it? I am pretty sure it's in the programming somewhere not in the hardware.

Clicking on the monkey was a very bad move. When you do it can do a number of things, from installing spyware/adware, to keyloggers, to trojans, to browser hijackers. Firstly, run a virus scan to ensure your PC is not infected with one of the many that are getting around at the moment. If all clear, download a program called Adaware from lavasoft. Run that and it should clear out any spyware/adware that is loaded on your PC.

Edit: Here's a link that may assist you

Oh. I thought right clicking was safe. Am I wrong there?

Grab a copy of Spybot - search and destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/

Install it, download the updated definitions and runa scan and clean through your system. I had a similar problem to yours when my sister used my downloading machine to view some sites and clicked on some banners.

After you've done the above, grab the latest free version of Adaware from http://www.lavasoft.com/ and install and run as well to get rid of anything Spybot missed.

You should be right after that.

Thanks mate. I already have those installed as well as Zone Alarm and Google popup prevention.
Nothing seems to work.
Think I might nuke the whole thing again.Does not seem to be any way to uninstall Explorer.
Oh well.
