It'll be your belt, grab some belt conditioner spray from SuperCheap. Mine squeals like a girl when the weather is moist, give it a good spray and away ya go in golden silence.
Either that or get a new belt. :)

Had the same problem on a VT v6sc at 60k. Seemed to be coming from the idler pulley for the supercharger belt, replaced this but still had the noise on start up till warm. Next change was the belt it self and this solved the problem. no more squeaking on start up. On inspection of the old belt I could only find one spot on the edge which was ruff to the touch. Hope this helps.

Had a similar problem too, ended up being the water pump belt, which had passed its wear by date :) Had it replaced under warranty and the noise dissappeared...only happenend when the car was cold and eventually went away once she'd warmed up a bit.

Had the same noise ,holden replaced the main belt which fixed it for about 2000k's but then it came back, They then replaced the belt again and also the tensioner pulley which fixed it :) .Do a search on pulleys the same things happed to a few cars, here and in the US
P.S I wouldn't bother putting anything on the belts, If it does work it won't last for long

Yeah I'd say it was the belt, mine does (did) same thing can come from the belt being really dry after engine bay being steamcleaned and just old belt. I found that some (shock flameproff undies on :p ) that a stick of Motorcraft Dry Lube about $4 from the local ford service dept on the belt works really well!

will try that markone. i have also heard of noise from the idler pulley in another thread but no answers on the problem
Same problem with my car high pitch squeal upon startup (cold),
Check the noise with a mechanical stethoscope (screw driver) to listen for excessive bearing noise on both the A/C Idler tensioner and ACC idleer tensioners.
found that the A/C Idler twnsioner was the culprit ( a most predominate grinding sound when listening to the bearing) and replaced it problem gone. From memory the Approx figure about $70 inc GST.
Have noticed that the ACC Tensioner did have some bearing noise and may need replacing some time soon.
Hope this helps.

Had same problem after some of the belts got wet during very heavy rain (ie roads under a few inches of water). I found silicon spray worked fine when (very carefully) applied with engine running. Used the 'extension nozzle' to keep the spray away from pulleys and directed onto side of belts.
I had the problem for a week or so expecting it to go away by itself. It doesn't so I got the silicon spray out.

i think i will try a new belt/belts. Dont really want to spray any belt grip / soap as it is only a temp fix. thanx everyone! hey redr8, was that ur car at pt dynoday, with the r8 badges on the sides and the polished wheels?? how much did u pay for the badges and how much per wheel to get them polished?? they looked awesome!! if it was your car  tahnks again!

Seems to be a common problem with VT-VX, not sure about VY but I have this stupid noise on cold start too. It goes away after 5 - 10 minutes. I know with the VX, sometimes it was just the belt etc but often was due to pully alignment not being true. Often holden will re-fit or replace them to correct the problem but not sure if it will cost you $$ if out of you warranty.
I will be telling holden about it when it goes in for its service in about 3k down the road.
Good luck.

The soap trick works well, unless the belt is actually faulty/stuffed. I've been told not to put anything on the belts, not even belt grip. Found this out after doing so after getting coolant on my old S/C VT belt, tried the belt grip, then the lube stick, didn't help. Was told about the soap, so pulled the beltoff and gave it a good scrub in hot soapy water, then refitted it once dry, ran the car and carefully held a bar of saop against it. Took me near on 2 bars as there was still a fair bit of crap on the belt to remove, but once it was done I never heard from it again.

I wouldn't be lube-ing the belt in any way - silicone, soap, WD-40 etc sure quiet it down by avoiding the noise but they promote more slip and will stuff your belt even faster. I think that hides the problem rather than fixing it. The more they slip the hotter they get.
Belt grip does exactly what it says - makes the belts grab the pulleys better because thats what belts are meant to do - to transmit power.
If you have a new-ish belt that's squealing first check the alignments on the pulleys - if they are out your new belt will become old very quickly.
Pull the belt off - give it a good scrub and clean with water and detergent or metho. When dry, give it a good spray with belt grip in amongst the ribbed parts before you put it on. Also clean the pulleys as well as you can with a toothbrush and water/detergent and/or metho to get all oil etc off.
Retension as tight as you are allowed - somwehere around 20mm play on the longest run?

Have the same problem. Holden replaced the water pump belt & all was good for 4 days, but then it was back! The squeel would start on cold starts for about 3 minutes. Strangely enough it seems to have settled recently, perhaps due to the warmer weather?

I had this same issue the other day, and just went and replaced the belts. There are 2, one for the A/C, and the main one that drives the rest. Mine was the A/C belt which is behind the main belt. I found this by replacing the main belt first, then realising it didn't fix it, so change both at the same time.
Another common problem i have been told is that the p/steer pump pulley can move on the shaft which put's out the alignment. Dealerships just pull the pumps out and reposition the pulley so everything is back true again

Another cause is a small coolant leak, often the small line under the throttle body, drips onto the belt overnight, squeals 'til it dries off.
Run you finger under the coolant pipes in the area and see if there are any small seeps.

Funny you say that i did a bypass of the TB yesterday and coolant went everywhere , test drove it and it was fine then this mornin squeeled like a banshee , just spreyed some CRC belt grip on it and walla , noice and quiet again. wonder how long it will last.

How did you do the bypass? Did you just move the pipe from
the RHS of the T/B to the LHS of the T/B? Did you use a
proper clamp to seal it?

Yeah thats all i did . left the pipes out of the throttle boddy open , figured it was just a straight through so why blank them off ( Please correct me if im wrong ). reused hose clamp on the coolant pipe for the motor ( Rail and thats it).

If I remember correctly once you move the hose it is a little too big
for the pipe on the LHS, took a fair bit of tightening with mine to
get it to seal :)

your right however i reused the spring type hose clamp and no leaks , guess i was lucky
