thanks for the words guys. Pretty happy with how it is coming together....damn side skirts and exhaust were just too much work. :bash:
Got to really thank the guys at TD Engineering for the hard work they put into the tray. Really is the part of a tonner that makes or breaks it's appearance.
Have some parts on order in the engine stakes so yeah it will see the strip as soon as I have the engine presentable. :) Number plate? That's my reaction time at the tree!!
owned it for over a month.....now it's time to drive it!

I love the new 1 tonner and that is one of the sweetest I have seen. I want to build a tonner in deep green with SS front, polished rims, and wooden tray. Topped off with a tough 5.7 litre with a real lumpy cam. Mmmmm

naaaa no offence taken at all. I laughed my guts up. Looks like the original thing that Tuna was after  :booty:
I know one thing for sure....YOU are the man who will be designing graphics for our next race project! Great work and heap of imagination.
The outside one? Man woke up in the middle of the night last week after having that dream....went into work the next morning and insured it!!
Street Rice! Now I know why I don't work on half engine stuff......nice variation on Road Slow though. ;)
Any how went for a blast in it last night and got upto 120kph in the thing....didn't have the radio on as the battery was of and I never reset the code....but man does the diff howl or what? Sounds like a f@#$ing werewolf in the back!! Any one else heard of this? Another mate has a man with 3.46 and he has had 3 diffs in his now.....but the 3.07 rear guys don't seem to have any dramas. Interesting. Looks like the nine inch will go in earlier than I thought!!! ;)

Yeah, comes standard! :) Can't remember exactly but it's not caused by the diff gears, it's got somthing to do with the bushes somewhere but i don't think theres any revised one's available yet.
Very nice ride BTW!

I don't know about that.....man it is noisy on the drive side but as a mouse on the overdrive. I definitely think it is a lapping problem as it is speed related....bit like the old air raid sirens. The faster the go the more it wails....but the 3.07 have the same bushes but are quiet....which ever way it is not acceptable for a new car.....

On a little more serious note....I think the SS 18's look better than the Weld wheels - but hey - its your tonner, so do what YOU think looks good.
Agree though, they should release an SS 1 tonner alongside the ute.
They'd sell every one of them.

Welds for racing. SS for street.
Any one with any news on the tailshaft vibration issue at 200k+ theoretically... ;) Spoke to a mate at a dealer today....diff is common. Bad news is that most of the replacements are worse than the original. He has fitted 3 diffs to one car to get a good one.
Thanks for all the variations fellas. Interesting concepts.

No John, the tailshafts dont vibrate above 200+ km/h
A lad we know got booked going 237km/h in a Crewman with no probbs, and Ive been over 200 plenty of times in mine. Its all smoke & mirrors from the manufacturer

Out of curiousity Martin what type of diff did you use, I noticed yours had a finned rear cover when I was checking out your exhaust at the Nationals, I had a good look at a 1 tonner without a tray on the weekend and it was just your normal looking BTR setup, no fins :)
OT, what's the big block of cast iron just to the rear of the u-bolts on top of the spring for ?
Martin_D
17-05-2004, 10:55 PM
Actually John, they LOOK like the same diff as a current Ford ute, but the blue oval version works that much better. Anyone that saw the CAPA XR8 at Heathcote will realise just how much better the Ford unit is packed, biased, whatever

no need to hide Tuna. Knew that a goody two shoes like you would have the speed limmiter recal back to 110 for street driving. :D But they are putting a new shaft in mine all the same.
spoke to the dealer today....new diff on order. Then spoke to mate in BTR and some fellas I know in the Ford dealers. Interestingly it seems that they have a universal problem and it comes down to at this point pinion set up and the quality of the pinion bearing with out right bearing failure not uncommon. Found out a whole bunch of other stuff but that is for another day. Ford went to hell and back with the 80 series diff......similar to what Holden is going through right now. But both camps are having issues.

Had a couple of Fords with these diffs in them through our hands and they have been magic things. Quiet, good LSD operation etc. Have heard of the pinion bearing failure though

pretty much all the experience I have had with the 80 series has been good. Spoke to a mate with a Crewman who had his replaced...on the DELIVERY REPORT it had diff noise. They gave it to him and when he quizzed them they said "Let it develop" At 5000k is collapsed the pinion bearing and had to be towed from a country town back to Perth.
only reson Iam even bothering with the warrenty is a mate wants 3.46 for his and I want it right to give to him. I get his 3.07 to do my thing with. ;)
