Hi all,

I am trying to plan a cruise in Sydney to raise money for Red Nose Day, which is the fund raising day for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome – or cot death). A very dear friend of mine lost a son recently to SIDS, and all affected have committed to help raise money and promote awareness of this tragic occurrence.

Red Nose Day this year is on Friday 25 June, so I was looking to organise a cruise on Saturday 26 June (Friday might be difficult with those who have families). All we would ask is that everyone involved would purchase a red nose for their car, and perhaps buy themselves a red nose or throw in a few dollars.

I haven’t decided on a location, but it would be great if anyone interested could post suggestions. I am also hoping to open the cruise up to any cars at all.

Perhaps someone could organize a similar cruise interstate.

Thanks,

Slaka

Hi slaka,

Thats only 1 month away  ,Red Nose Day (http://www.rednoseday.com.au/)
If you get a cruise organised I'd be willing to put a red nose on my car and myself for this cause.

Why not organise a Red Nose cruise to the Brown Nose capital? I imagine a few other Melbournites might make the trip - not too cold in Canberra yet! Still goodish weather.

I already have a red face from the Monaro Convertible thread so I'd be a monty! :o

How about we get together and organise one in Perth as well. We could take photos and post here and perhaps send in some to the SIDS foundation, just to show them that "car hoons" can do something productive for the community as well.

Hi all,

The details have been finalised for the Red Nose Day cruise. It will be on Saturday 26 June, and we will be heading to Palm Beach. So far there is a meeting point at Silverwater boat ramp at 11am. I am still chasing down some car red noses, but if I can't we would ask for a donation of say $15 per car (or what you can afford) and all passengers to buy a red nose.

Please let me know if you are interested. There are already about 16 commodores coming so far, but it is not limited to commodores.

It is a great cause, lets try and get as many people as possible.

Yep, I'm in. When you have all the details did you want to post it in the cruise section and maybe the calendar.
Well done too btw, it's good to see.
Cheers,
V82xist

Edit: whoops just noticed your not validated. I will do the above for you if you put all the details here in this thread. We will look into the validation when we have the cruise. ;)

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you become validated?

You must personally know/have met someone off the forums. That person then has to "vouch" for you that your a decent enough person and not going to cause trouble in the "secret" sections.

So goto a meet somewhere, meet some people and someone will validate you. (N.B: The person vouching for you must be validated)

palm beach car parks arent that big, im sure that if this is broadcast enough the meet will be way to big for there...

I'll post it over at SCR if you like as an un-offical over there,

Also you might want to consider getting in contact with Richmond High School they where and i think still are the biggest supporter/fund raiser for red nose day having received quite a few Gold noses's etc for there efforts over the past 9 years or so...

Maybe a cruise out to that direction and keep heading up the mountains or sumthing...to bathurst etc...

Need any help PM me, I wont be comign in my car as wont be rego'd but whateva happens i'll have the Mrs's Laser out and about with a nose on it to cover the badge up lol..

Just a suggestion, how about a cruise and BBQ somewhere within Sydney.
We could have a cruise, BBQ,validation day and a charity event all in one day, maybe put on a raffle, see some of our sponsers if they could donate some merchandise to raffle off, this should attract more people to attend,
just a thought, I'll try to be there regarding which way it goes.
If you need a hand give us a yell.

Great idea Ally Cat, however, trust me its not that simple (Speaking from Experience organsing the Cruise4ACure). You really need much more time to plan if you want to get sponsers along. FIngers crossed someone may donate something though ;)

HI Guys,
I know that when I was in Syd, The drive to Wisemans ferry via Richmond way is a good one. Plenty of good road and a good place to test your handling while observing the limits. Also, Wisemans has good BBQ facilities and plenty of parking all round. Also dont have to put up with dickheads that want to cause trouble while driving.

IS there any cruise being organised for the Perth area?

For those in the Penrith to Blacktown Area, is there going to be a meeting spot and cruise from there to Silverwater?

Suttons Holden have now donated a HRT jacket, and all cars coming along will be entered into a draw to win it. Just a little more encouragement for people to come along.

The Penrith Panthers have also donated a signed football as a prize for the cruise.

Well done to Slaka and his mates, I think he said about $650 was raised but maybe more.
Yep, it was nice to hear the sound of HSV8 playing his trumpets, music to my ears :D
Some guy in an red XR6 ute thought he'd have a go at one set of lights...some people have unrealistic goals...so he now has a bit more understanding of reality :D  Ahh I love helping people like that :p
I hope the guy who owned the falcon that did the tango with the guard rail doesn't have to fork out too many dollars to get his car fixed....ouch.
I hate that thudding sound, watched it happen

Great Day Guy's, I got to meet some nice people and got some good power tips, it was a good turnout , the money that was raised and the people I met was all well worth the drive.
An excellent job done by Damian "SLAKA and his team in organising the event and food/facilities on such short notice.

That was me. :(

We all had guesses on how much the repair would be, but it turns out I've been quoted $700 for the repair of everything except the front bumper (I'm hoping to source that myself cheap) or add another $400 for the bumper supplied, sprayed and fitted.

So about $1100 for the whole thing fixed, which is $900 short on what I thought it would be. I suppose there's one accident every cruise hehe.

Despite this I had a really fun day, it was great to see some nice cars and getting involved in some spirited driving with otheres. It was fantastic to hear some respectable comments coming from a few LS1-ers about the performance of my car and actually sympathising the crash. Being a Ford man I wasn't expecting that and it was really cool. :)

I'm glad to hear a good deal of money was raised for sids as it's a great cause. Keep up the good work guys. :)
