Hi All,

After much deliberation, that had started as looking for a ~$30K second hand VX SS, I managed to haggle the local dealer down to a low enough price to justify putting a brand new VYII SS on a novated lease through work.

Its an M6 in Cosmo with the black leather.

What an awesome car, the improvement over the last holden I owned (HSV XU8) was unbelievable. Although I miss the way the XU8 used to rock at idle.

Now I've just got to wait for the finance to be organised, and find somewhere to do the exhaust and LS1 Edit :)

Can anyone tell me when the next validation event in Brisbane is on ?

Andrew.

Well done mate! I'd give Power Torque in Brendale a call re: edit.
Cheers.

Andrew.

We often meet on Friday nights for a chat and possibly a quickie cruise.... and we also occasionally have a dinner at the Crown (Lutwyche) on Tuesdays. Both would be good for you to come up, introduce yourself and have a chat
There is a longer country cruise soon, but I'll have to check whether we'll make it an opportunity for unvalidated members yet.
Please note though, that just "turning up" does not automatically qualify you for validation .... someone amongst the group will have to think you're the sort of person they're willing to vouch for - "complete tools need not apply" - we already have more than enough of them in our group to fill our quota!

What are they (new VY II SS's) going for these days ??

I've always said i'd never buy a new Holden ever again due to the massive depreciation they have but i am soooo tempted to get a new VY II... :)

I can see the poor wagon not lasting to much longer, time to get me another LS1 - the exploits at the drag strips of certain forum members aren't helping !!

Congrats on the new wheels :D

On the subject of price... that still sounds high-ish. I would like to think that you could get another $2K off that, at least.

Or am I on another planet?

btw, the favourable currency in recent times must have eased margins in Holden's favour re: importation of the LS1 and drivetrains.

Yeah, it's a bit high.

Mine was $40682.43 on the road, brand new in March this year. It's got cloth trim though, so the leather would be another grand or more on top....

$40682.43, that is pretty bloody cheap, was that for a '03 plated model??

Factory leather/climate is a little over $2k.

Technically mine (May '04 build VY II SS 6m) was $38650 with a factory sunroof...it is a government tax exempt operating lease though.

Was that with some sort of fleet discount or tax exemption. I was looking at '03 run-outs in Melbourne and the cheapest I could find was about $45,300
drive-away. I am talkiing private motorist walk in slap the cash down best price you can do and that was the best I could get. I may try again when the VZ drops see what the run-outs are then.

Yes, that was with a fleet discount. ordered through my employer (Govt Dept), using www.totalcare.com.au.

It's a Feb 04 build, ordered in March 04 and delivered to me just over a week later.

It appears to be standard price that Totalcare can get, as a workmate of mine got a VYII SS in late 2003, in auto & cloth trim for $340 CHEAPER, and they threw in the rear park assist system for free. It was only when he told me the bottom line, that I realised I *could* afford one of these!

That's a good price.....it's hard for a private buyer, apart from trying to screw the best deal, or going down the run-out or demo path. Anyone know of any loop holes for the private cash buyer? Having a trade-in doesn't help either as they want to give you shit for your car, and the gap gets quite large. Hard to get your mind around parting with a good car and $20k or so to boot to get a newie.

Guys,

We need to be sure we're not comparing apples and oranges here.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that the price of $40682.43 is EX-GST.

Also, I believe that government department leases through totalcare don't have to pay stamp duty, so add the $4K GST and $1K stamp duty and you are up to $45.5K.

Add the $2.5K for leather, and your'e up to $48K.

Considering that you are comparing a massive fleet discount price against someone walking in off the street, I don't think I did to bad :)

Who cares anyway, the important thing is I should be getting my new baby in a couple of weeks :D

Andrew.

BTW, before the flaming starts, all of the above is simply my understanding of the situation with government leases through totalcare. If I'm wrong, thats cool, but lets keep it civil, eh ? (This thread has already gone off course once, and had to have posts removed...)

I think you did good Andrew. Wave a pile of cash at a dealer and you'll always do better on a car off the showroom floor, especially if it's been sitting around a while like my Monaro, whic I watched drop from 57-52K over 3 months because it is '03 plated.

Order something you actually want and the boot's on the other foot. Mine was 48K minus GST or 56K if you included on-road, stamp duty and GST. Actual cost on the lease was 51600 incl. towbar, locknuts and alarm. I was lucky this colour, manual and interior were what I wanted, plus this dealer was the one of my choice from experience and I was very happy overall with the deal. You always want to pay less, but I can't fault them.

I got another $880 off by getting a letter from my pay people stating I was eligible for a lease vehicle as part of salary package and GMH was a fleet supplier to my employer. The dealer presents that to GMH for a rebate, so it's no skin off their nose.

Partially correct, partially incorrect. My car price is inclusive of GST. You are correct in that it is stamp duty exempt, and this is a huge saving. My bottom line also included a very small dealer delivery of $100. Happy to show any locals my paperwork if they disbelieve :)

But to put things into perspective, prior to the lease, I did try to negotiate the local dealers into their very best driveaway price, with me buying as a private purchaser with no trade (ie, I was crunching numbers to see whether it'd be better to purchase one this way using equity in the mortgage at lower interest rate). I can't find where I kept those figures, but the deals I could get were not very good, probably around the $52k mark driveaway which included stamp duty, rego, dealer deliv. I can't afford this, so I gave up. And then I saw my colleague in his new SS, we talked, and the rest is history!
