I have a Series II CV8 Monaro built May 03. Before I bought the car I had heard all the stories about problems with the Gen III engines. The salesman assured me that that problem had been fixed now and I will have no problems with my Monaro.
So far so good. I've had the car for about 10 months and done just over 9000 kms and it hasn't used a drop of oil or had any piston slap.
I was just wondering what was the cause of the problems in the engine and what was done (if anything) to fix it or is it just luck of the draw if you get a good one?
cheers

Theres 1 million threads about this, did u do a search?
What I find funny is when there was a problem, holden would deny it, but once the problem gets rectified, holden will be the first to say "the problem has been fixed"...

My Series III, Oct 03 build is also absolutely dead quiet, cold or hot. Started in garage, only sound is exhaust burble, the slightest mechanical rustle and swish of belts after sitting 4 days. Only done 1500 kays (first service tomorrow) but the motor feels strong and revs more willingly with every km and is getting high 20's mpg on a gentle 5-6 gear cruise. Just did 300km around Bellarine peninsula today. More than half a tank of juice left.
If I could avoid revving it in the gears around town because of the sound, I'm sure I could get better consumption there than 22l/100km! So far, all is good.

I has a salesman try to convince me the other day that all Oil / piston problems were fixed after the VT (VX onwards no problems)
When I asked why my VX had piston slap ...

- every 5 click oild change
do you drive the car hard ??

There is an old saying about used cars; this one has stood the test of time.
*Buyers are liars and sellers are Thieves*
