I'm with Shannons, no probs with a blower. No normal insurer will touch you - also try Just Cars. There are quite a few threads about insurance if you search.

I'm with Heath Lambert, but from memory all drivers have to be at least 25.

as with shannons, heath lambert etc you have to be over 25 to get insurance with them, try Young and Cool, they keep advertising that they do unlimited mods...not sure if they're up in Brissie though, but then somone on here might be able to help you out with shannons etc..

Just a general warning, not specific to Young and Cool, the more non-mainstream the insurer is the more I would look into who underwrites the policy ie who is actually going to pay if you have a write-off. Last thing you need is to pay big premiums only to not get paid out when the car is written off a couple of years down the track. :)

Have you tried Suncorp? You'll be suprised what they allow.

Their website says they allow blowers, but I tried and alas, no they don't (they do allow aftermarket turbos though!)

Even NRMA, i have found that NRMA (RACQ in Brisi??) is very flexiable now, were they used to turn away "specialty cars" they now work to get your business.

Word of warning, if you go with just cars, if you get a quote, GET A QUOTE REF NUMBER or they will try and go back on the quote, PM me for more info if you want.

My VXII SS was insured with Suncorp, but when I bought the Maloo I went to insure it with them and now they will not insure males under 25 with v8's. RACQ-GIO did so they got the business, and being a bronze member got a discount too!! Can't argue with that.

Crikey, I was with GIO because I was a gold member but when I brought the VUII I switched to Suncorp because they were over $200 cheaper and have now stayed with them for the new VYII.

The insurance world changes when you hit 25.

Sorry to hijack, but im 28 and never had insurance under my name, though never had an accident either. Is it really expensive for someone to get insurance for the first time ?

In a word, yes.
Judging by what you are looking at buying (VT Clubby as per your profile) being a low rating will hurt you a lot.

Have you ever been a listed driver on someone else's policy (parent, girlfriend/wife etc) as some companies will grant you status for years as a listed driver, especially if the policy was held with the same company.

Hope what I've had to offer helps you a little.

I rang Just Cars today and to insure the Caprice with $8k worth of supercharger and unlimited mods was $1188. $800 Excess. Add $500 is rims are damaged. No drivers under 25 (ever)

Until recently, yes. Things seem to have changed now, and they are more interested in how many years you have been driving. Makes alot of sense to me. Why should you be penalised for having only driven someone else's car - e.g. parents'?

Just insured with Suncorp 1st time ,(well) over 25 $ 700 for first year on my VX R8 was the cheapest quote that i had. Found many company"s would not insure any car with engine capasity over 5 ltrs.

Insurance companies do it, but i cant see the point behind eng. capacity! Oh,maybe its cause all V8s are getting bigger i.e. 5,5.7,6, 6.2litre. ok i have answered my own question. They get to squeeze a few more $$$ out of people with big donks :)

What is the insured value of the car with that policy? I know when I got a quote with them it was a joke. Something around $23,000 if the car got stolen or written off. That wouldnt cover a stock VX SS let alone what ive done to mine. I am now with Shannons and it is costing quite a bit but at least its covered for a more realistic value.
