What is the most successful way to sell a car? Newspaper classifieds? Trading Post? carsales.com? etc? On here? Opinions/experiences sought...

Try the LS1 forum's classifieds section, and the mediums you mentioned.

trading post seems to work well, papers seem to be a waste of time

Ive been trying to sell my clubsport for 2 months without much luck, had a couple of calls from trading post and nothing from carsales or carpoint.
I think it really depends on the sort of car it is and the value you expect.
Find the newspapers a waste of time and too expensive !!
Definatley try this site especially if your car is performace vehicle sought by users of this forum
But do you know what i reckon is the best? - EBAY - ive had more bites and emails from that than anyone - im hoping to sell it by the end of this week
have a look for yourself if you like!!!

I always thought that would be the case, but I found the opposite here in SA.
I advertised my car in both, and asked all callers where they saw the ad (so I could decide if the time came to re-advertise, where my money was better spent).
I got 6 times more calls for the car from the newspaper classified ad.
Depends a lot on the type of car you are trying to sell though I think.

If a car is well presented and priced according to market demands you have more than an 80% chance of offloading with your 1st classified advert in the
Newspapers Saturday car columns.
The only hindrance to the above is your own eagerness to sell, becoming to quick to accept a deposit for that cash offer which turns out to be a bank cheque from a credit union issued
Subject to an RACQ or equivalent inspection which very very few cars escape unscathed…..these buyers are a 50/ 50 split between school teachers and those purchasers bringing a third party know it all into negotiations ….
My hit rate of first looker buy's is over half. This is off advert number one Saturday’s newspaper
Trading post is used only for those vehicles that have been (Mistakes) and hence not up to scratch or overpriced ….
How do I get these figures…..? How do I play with little red car's........
:D
edit: one car sold in four years from advertising on the internet.

I sold a low km SS in Sydney. I agree with a couple of the above posts, newspapers were useless (only calls I got were from car deals / consignment places). I'd go trading post and internet / word of mouth

I'd agree with that. I sold my last bike through consignment at a bikeshop and a car by word of mouth. Consignment should also cover your insurance, mine was. At least that way you don't have to waste the time with tyre kickers and a reputable dealer shouldn't let anybody loose for a test drive until they have "qualified" them as being in a position to be able to buy. Most salesmen are pretty adept at sniffing out timewasters.

Your local rag is good, especially the free ones because of the coverage and the advertising is usually cheap, especially for the 'advertise 'til you sell it' deals.

I sold all my cars online and even the R1. If you live in the outback this is your best option
I believe that a good car at a good price will always sell fast.

I sold a VS series 2 and a 2001 Corolla to finance the new SV8 :)
I used the trading post and sold both within a week. Just make your add 'bold' which cost a little extra and write a good add... I think there is a little negativity out there regarding older LS1's though...

Don’t mean to hijack the thread, but what if you’ve modified the car ? do you still have the same odds or are you better off returning it to stock (as much as possible)

I advertised my previous commodore through newspapers and The Trading Post. All the calls through the newspapers (yeh both of them) were from dealers  ;but through The Trading Post I got a sh#t load of calls & eventually sold. Also better value for money withTrading Post, you get 3 weeks of advertising for the price of 1 week in a newspaper.

I have been trying to sell my VT for ages, had it advertised in the sunday paper, quokka, here and on carsales.com.au
Havent had much interest despite the bargain price. It could just be that noone wants a car with a big engine at the moment.
